General Discription

A fiercely patrotic country living mostly in and around the lush forests that surround the land. Because of this they are an isolated country mistrusting of strangers and new things. Despite this they are still very technogically advanced in things that are neccesary for their survival. A massive majority of the small population are natives as immagration is frowned upon, the shreik religion is a modern form of paganism with an emphasis on enviromentalism and spartan living called Siliki.

Brief History

Heres a brief history as scribed by Historian K. Lipoan

The Farm is Built

Sheikland was formed originally as a temporary hippy colony once a year for an event commonly known as Nature Ring (because of the way the camp was arranged with tents starting from the inside and spirraling outwards). Because of how out of the way it was they often spent all thier money getting there and having to work in countrys nearby to earn money for the return trip. Eventually people got tierd of this and decided to settle in the forest for good.

The First Seeds are Sown

The Founder of the camp was called Tomash Sheik and the camp called Sheiktown. Many people settled there when they had had enough of the capatalist countries they had come from and the camp soon grew. After many years the first Electorates were elected with the Sultan called Tomash in the founders honour. After a while serveral neighbouring camps where also formed called High Nervon and Proshash.

The Birds eat the Seeds

After a couple of generations of peace arguments broke out over several revered places such as springs, waterfields and perticually old trees. The arguments soon became voilent with skimishes breaking out all over the forest, arms were imported from neighbouring countries and High Nervon was completely slaughtered save for one old man called Siliki Sawakin. The last of his camp he campaigned for peace and was shot in sevaral efforts. Despite this though the voilence started to calm down and Siliki soon started to gain his own followers which he named shamans.

A Scarecrow is Built

The best and brightest of his shamans he took into his "inner ring" with whomn he shared no secrets. After many murders of his followers in protests against the voilence he kidnapped both camp leaders, Sultan Tomash IV and Sultan Proshash II and forced them to resolve there differences by a series of of rules that had to be obeyed in thier day to day life. The first to break a rule lost and his followers would lay down thier arms and be absorbed by the others nation (for by now numbers had increased to such extent that there a multitude of camps and watchposts) peacefully.

The Birds are Scared by the Scarecrow

The challenge lasted for years with each Sultan following the rules to the letter untill one day when one of the followers of Siliki cunningly disguised pretended to be mugged for his gold and silver coins cried for help to each Sultan. Tomash defeated the muggers one of which dropped a gold coin from the sack and he picked it up put it back the sack and handed it back to the man. Proshash however pocketed the gold coin and in doing so broke the first rule in that no-one should have any un-neccesary meterial possesions. Tomash was pronounced victor and supreme and undoubtable Sultan, Proshash in a fit of rage killed Siliki, Proshash then instantly fell dead.

Scarecrow is Broken Down and Made into Small Scarecrows All Over the Farm

Silikis death was mourned for twenty year and pronounced as a Messiah-Saint, the new capital was named after him. His beliefs and the rules of the challenge written down so that everyone could follow his example in life for he had lived for well over 200 years. In the next decade or so Siliki's rules fast became a religion named after his first name as his second was already taken. Since then many Sultans have passed, many good, many bad, some clever, some stupid. None however have matched the current Sultan for internationalism, he has expanded contact to neighboring local tribes, then too neighboring countries and final to the world stage at the JAUST celebratery ball bringing alot of attention to the small isolated country in the Middle-east.

Ethnic Majority and Minorities

There aren't many nationalities in Shreikland as they aren't particularily welcomed by the Shreik Majority; there are cases of stonings, beatings and in a couple of isolated cases murders. However the current Electorates is looking to change all that. It is now illegal to make racist remarks in a public place (fiercly opposed by The 5 Rings (see 'Religion' below)) and there is a crackdown on racist Media. Because of these efforts there are now a few immigrants from other countries seeking a more peaceful existence. The latest figures from the Office of Immigration are:

  • 95% Shreik (lived in Shreikland for 4 generations or more)
  • 2% Middle Eastern
  • 1% American
  • 1% Indian
  • 1% European
  • >1% Other
  • >1% Refuse to answer

Business

Not liking interaction with strangers, the import/export business is virtually non-existent except for the bare essentials. Corparations were generally mistrusted until recently when captalism was banned following a soda strike (the major product of the old private sector).

Advisor of Commerce

The Advisor of Commerce is a general scapegoat for these economic problems and a hated figure of captalism. As such his identitity is protected after the former Advisor was killed by an angry mob when he proclaimed "Sure the forests are important but just think, if we cut down these trees we can get at the uranium which will lead to nuclear power and exporting to other countries for nuclear weapons. This will...." (he was struck by a rock at this moment and rendered unconcious). They are always called Advisor X. Commerce to protect their families and stop them being tracked down, they also never make public appearences instead having representives making speeches and announcements for them. They are usually put in bulletproof cases first or are heavily guarded by Security officers. Trade advisors are usually of a foriegn nationality as enviromentalism and a distrust of commerce are encouraged early in the schooling system, as such its hard to find a sutible candidate in the Sheik majority.

Religion

Siliki

Sheik religion is, as noted above, a modern form of paganism with emphais on enviromentalism and spartan living (i.e. not many material goods) called Siliki. It has a code of practise for its followers to use in there day-to-day lives called The Ring of Faith which promotes meditation, prayer, multiple spouses, free living and speech and non-voilence. This often conflicts with the nature of the Sheik people as they are hot-headed and extremely fanatic about thier beliefs. Although not all of The Ring is positive, it also councels mis-trust of money, strangers, other religions and downright commdenation of enviromentally polluting objects and eating animals.

Other Religions in Shreikland

While the majority of the Sheik people are Siliki, there are some smatterings of buddhists, Gians and other such religions. the demographs are as follows:

  • 92% Siliki
  • 4% Buddhist
  • 3% Gian
  • 1% Other
  • >1% Atheist

The Buddhists and Gians while not gennerally trusted are usually accepted after a few generations of showing good qualities, whereas Other religions have to have lived in Sheikland for a very long time before people will be friendly towards them and atheists are generally ignored and muttered about behind thier back. This is mostly because they are refugees and fleeing criminals from other countries.

Siliki Deities

There are hundreds of deities in Siliki, gods, goddesses, spirits, sprites and other such things. They each represent a different object, one for trees, one for the mind, one for fate, one for cows, one for sports and so on. The major deities are however for each element and each element commands a different deity of another thing (god of fire commands the spirit of warmth, goddess of cooking, etc). These deities are commonoly known as Elementals. They are as follows:

  1. God of Fire, Xymalash (appears often as a dark orange bull with bright red eyes and snorting fire with a ring of molten metal in his nose)
  2. Goddess of Water, Phlowen (appears as a blue-green dolphin with a crown of shells, followed by a shoal of brighly coloured fish)
  3. God of Earth, Taaken (appears as a Giant tree with millions of branches and more leaves than the eye can take in, the wood is all knarled and knotted, there are thousands of animals running around the branches and burrowing under the roots.
  4. Goddess of Air, Thista (appears as a Owl with eyes on the back of her head and with a horde of birds and flies and other flying creatures to tell all that is going on)

Siliki Heirachy

The people who guide other Sheik in the way of The Ring Of Faith are called as a general Shamans who are divided into varoius circles called rings. There are 5 rings with a councel of 5 members in the inner ring, one for each major deity and one for an un-biased view incorparating all deities often called the World Shaman. Each outer ring has five times more members than the prevoius inner ring (2nd ring has 25, 3rd has 125, etc). To get on the ring a aspiring shaman must become an apprentence to a 5th ring shaman and when that shaman is moved into the 4th ring the apprientice is moved into the 5th ring where his master used to be. After this they are elected to thier post when someone leaves or is moved up or down.

Advisor of Religion/ Enviroment

The Advisor is the 1st ring shaman who represents the un-biased view incoparating all deities, his roles include the commision of new relegious buildings, judge in the Supreme Court of Morals and decides laws with the help off the 1st ring on religious crime and nature-crime. There is constant friction between the government and The 5 Rings as they a completely independent body with a Shaman made an electorate as a token gesture. They are often working to different aims, The 5 Rings trying to further the hold of religion on Shreikland and the government attempting to spread the nations name to more than a 5 mile radius from the countries boundries. But when they do come together its almost the perfect government system for Shreikland, unfortunately that hasnt happened for several generations.
