The Sorthern Northland union team nicknamed The Sortherners represent Sorthern Northland at Rugby Union. The team made it's début against Pa'atua in a friendly prior to the start of the eighth rugby world cup. The team then made it's competitive and World Cup début against Lovisa winning 10-7. The team plays in a red and gold kit, although for their first game the team were forced to play naked due to a lack of funding. The Solen Rugby Union though after this donated a kit to the Sortherners, but as Sorthern Northland only have the one kit they often play naked if the opposition team is at home and plays in red.
