Spooty (Dutch: Saartie) is a small coastal nation on the East side of Lajito (Dutch: Laginaar) it borders a thin strip of the Socialist Freemen Desert (Dutch: Woetijn Desert) to the West, the Mountains of Knights (Dutch: Ridderberg) To the South, the Sea of Razgriz (Dutch: Razastiz Zee) to the East, the Abascalanian Straight (Dutch: Skalan Straat)
History
The first instance of nation of Saartie appearing in the history books was as the Crusading knights of Saartie, rivals of the Phillan Knights, rather than following the Lance they took up the discipline of the [wikipedia:Zewihander | Zweihander], at this point the nation was seperated between the 5 lords of Saartie, Duke Kediz, Duke Sanders, Duke Albrecht, Duke Ostend and the self proclaimed Grand Duke, the four Duchies of Saartie paid tribute to Saartie but were free in making decisions of their own, it was not until 1341PDU that King Alexander Saartie IV unified the provinces after Saarties Oorlog, at this point the nation became known as De Unie Koninkrijk van Saartie.
The nation existed in relative peace for some time until the War of the House erupted in 872PDU between the now seperated lines of Saartie, the House of Spooty which held the throne and the House of Spiff which contested the right to the throne, the result of the war seemed to determine the life of the Spiff House for some time to come, Spiff was defeated but lost in such a way that he managed to create a parliment to undermine the power of Konin Spoot, in 711PDU De Unie Koninkrijk became De Grondwet Monarchie van Spooty.
This is believed to be the first Parliment on the Lajito continent but many historians contest this, the people did now have democracy but in such a small dose things had barely changed, infact the Spootian Parliment simply became a shouting ground for the House of Spiff and the House of Spoot, fearing another civil war the people rose up to gain seats in parliment, the House of Spoot agreed and the Peoples Party started, it lasted for 60 years before being disbanded, it had done its work and the arguments of Spiff-Spoot had almost died out completely.
During the Artistic renaisaance of the Lajito continent Saartie became a prime player in the artistic cultural world brining about a golden age in Saartie when people would flack to hear from Saartian bards, queue up to have portraits done by the masters and plan Circus routes through nations, it was at this point that Swashbuckling became a highly important aspect of life, the military even followed by implimenting the training in the use of Sabres and Bucklers as well as newly built pistol weaponary.
Around the same time the goverment began to realise the need for scholars in order to keep this golden age alive, they began to take money from the military coffers and placed it into that of the Education budget, it worked and the educated from Spooty were highly sought after commodities, often the goverment would simply pass them off peacefully but occasionally they would ask for monetary compensation if they were working on important projects, soon the Scholars demanded more voice in the goverment and very quickly managed to create 3 new parties, De Socialist Verandering Partee, De Comunist Partee and De Imparisto Partee.

Provinces
As mentioned Saartie is seperated into four provinces, each representing the four houses of the Knights of Saartie, each one was an area laid claim by the Knights of Saartie when the land was taken and granted to the Nobility.
Saartiestad
The Capitol of Spooty, containing the Capitol city Saartiestad but not by actually itself a city province, simply a province containing the city, Saartiestad is caught between the provinces of Ostend and Albrecht and is notable for its beer and vast rural landscapes which have borne some of the greatest Spootian artists and Scholars.
Ostend
The largest province of Saartie, as was claimed by Lord Ostend when he led the magnificent attack on this area, reknowned for its large military prowess and a distinct dislike for Albrechters (dating back to Medieval days) it was here that the Swashbuckling tradition began as weapons in Ostend were at that point legal, the cpitol of Ostend is the titular City of Ostend which houses De Wachtherenhaus, the military command for Saartie.
Albrecht
Albrecht is a semi large province to the West, it has long been associated with its piousness and a distinct dislike for Ostenders (dating back to Medieval times) Albrecht has a rich farming community which was formerly helped by the Church until the outlawing of religion, nowerdays it is assisted by the Goverment, landmarks include De Albrecht Cathedral in Albrecht which claims to have healing powers and is a popular site for Pilgrims everywhere.
Sanders
The smallest and least important of provinces, Sanders was once a rich and prosperous nation until Saartie IV claimed throne over all of the provinces, Sanders put up a grand resistence, alligning itself with the then powerless Albrecht, Albrecht was bought over by Saartie with promises of power and betrayed Sanders whose kingdom collapsed overnight into a small county in the desert, Sanders still enjoys tourism from nearby Socialist Freemen as a site of Monarchist oppression being beaten back.
