The Imperium of Might is an ancient region and is home to some of the largest nations in the world. Nations within the region live in peace and harmony with each other and many enjoy an opulent lifestyle. The Imperium is home to many different cultures and systems of government, and coupled with the Imperium's large population this makes the region a veritable world within a world for its residents.

Economy

Economic statistics on the Imperium are available here.

The Imperium is a mix of many different economies. Nations of note are:

  • Polok whose economy is a mix between socialism and capitalism. In Polok, the government makes sure the rights of the common man come before the rights of the company. It has also managed to bring the rich-poor divide to a very low level, by ensuring people are payed what they deserve and that there are always jobs and training schemes available for the unemployed. Currently Polok has the largest GDP in the region.
  • Valmar, a far more capitalist nation, where companies have almost a free-reign within what they can do. Valmar relies on high powered corporations and large businesses to boost its economy. Currently Valmar has one of the largest GDPs in the region.
  • Cax favours government control over a free-market. In Cax all businesses are government owned. There are 8 different Government-owned companies (Company 1, Company 2 etc.). They are are autonomous from the main body of the government, put must sustain themselves. They are free to do this in any legal way they wish. However, very major products, such as Snibbo are owned by the Government itself. This promotes choice for the people but does not do wonders for Cax's GDP.
  • Pisylvania. The Pisylvanian economy has always remained one of the lowest values in the Imperium. Nationalisation of every business in the nation has caused huge amounts of government spending, thus few goods are produced solely for export. The book publishing industry is particually strong, with more businesses being set up by the governemt every year, although others, such as the mining industry have taken a hit in recent years as the government closed many of them down and started to rely on imports for mined goods.
  • Flinndiglo is the epitomy of capitalism in the Imperium. Large companies act relatively abouve the law, as long as they still respect the government's wishes and interests.

Financial capitals of the Imperium:

  • Polokarn - The capital city of Polok, and home of many of the Imperium's largest corporations
  • Menzoberranzan - Capital city of Valmar, where many of Valmar's largest companies have their HQ's
  • Nagalwrath - Capital city of Flinndiglo, home of Flinndiglo's largest corporations. Many foreign companies also take advantage of the relaxed economic laws here.
  • Utonok - Major Polokian industrial city. This is the center of industry for Polok and ships goods to all nations of the Imperium.
  • Cax City The main city of Cax, hence, this is where most administration for business is done.

Politics

Political statistics on the Imperium can be seen here.

Like the economy, governments of the Imperium take varying stances towards civil rights and political freedoms. Nations like Polok and Dennaska have very good civil rights records while nations like Valmar have next to no civil rights. On the political freedoms scale nations like Peaceful Folk come out top, with other nations (Valmar again comes out at the bottom of the scale) have varying political freedoms. Most of the older nations have single-party governments. Some of these single-party nations have elections for district councilmen, and some have absolutely no democracy at all. In the Imperium we believe it is important to respect the political systems of our neighbours; democracy isn't the only free form of government, many of our single-party nations have excellent civil rights records and the people are more than happy with the stability of their governments.

Peace in the Imperium is maintained by the Pax Imperia agreement, signed by all Imperial nations, which forbids one IOM nation to declare war on another. If war is declared between imperial nations, then all other imperial nations must quell the conflict by diplomatic or martial means.

The leaders of the Imperium meet regularly to discuss topics such as trade, tourism and the environment. Continuous dialogue promotes friendship and cooperation between Imperium governments and allows efforts that effect all IOM nations to be coordinated.

Sites of Interest

Whether you're a visitor to the Imperium from another region or an Imperiumite looking for a holiday spot in the region, you should definately make one of these places your destination of choice:

  • Polokarn - If it's shopping and sights you're after, or a bit of education into Polok's cultural ancestory, then Polokarn's your kind of place. The political and cultural capital of Polok, Polokarn is a huge city built around the ancient monastery of Kutek. Polokarn is full to the brim with archetectural wonders, including the Nemir Complex, the tallest office building in the Imperium and the Polok'Taran City Pyramid a huge complex of office and residentual buildings. There is also a host of museums (subsidised by the government, so tickets are free) including the Polokian natural history museum, Polokian science museum and the Hibras Toln cultural heritage musem. Due to Polok's booming economy one can also find a whole host of shops, including all of the well known brands. There is nothing the determined shopper can't find in Polokarn.
  • Korok Peak - Korok peak offers experiences for both the thrill seakers and those looking for a more spiritual break. Situated in the great Hibran mountain range of western Polok, Korok peak is the highest mountain in Polok (at 7564m). It has long been a site of great spiritual significance to the Polokian people, and ,as such, many monasteries and temples decorate the mountain's surface. These temples are open to visitors, even the occupied ones (of which there are few). The more popular and easily reachable ones are maintained by the Polokian National Trust and carry a small entrance fee. Those that are still occupied are free, but do not be surprised if much of the building is off-limits. Tourists are advised to be respectful at all times in the religious sites. Korok peak is also excellent for skiing and other winter sports. There are many luxurious hotels and guest houses around and on the peak, offering a whole host of activities to keep you amused. Mountain hikes are also allowed, but permission must be granted first by the local authorities before you set off on any long hikes, especially in dangerous terrain.
  • Trestall Mountains - A mountain range in the North East of Pisylvania, this area displays significant natural beauty in the nation. Many of the peaks here are snow-topped all year round, providing perfect conditions for a winter sports holiday any time of the year. Further down the mountains there is the oppertunity for walks in the many lush forests that cover the majority of the slopes, where animals such as mountain goats and eagles are to be seen in their natural habitat. Tourists to this area are warned that the mountains are also home to several species of bear, which can occasionally become dangerous if disturbed.
  • Lake Waston - The largest artificial lake in the Imperium, this was originally a much smaller lake that was expanded due to regular flooding on the River Vorstor. The lake has several towns surrounding its shores, all of which have many types of accomodation for all sorts of tourist. The lake itself provides a wonderful oppertunity for water sports activities, as well as holidays for just relaxing on the sandy shores. Regular ferries can provide transport across the lake, which carry a small fee for their use.

Military

A breakdown of military spending in the Imperium can be seen here.

A military alliance between certain nations in the imperium, the Coalition Of Martial Mediation And National Defence (COMMAND), allows the region to coordinate its immense combined militaries, should a threat arise. The aliance has overseen the construction of two defence rings around the region, which enable the Imperium to resist almost any attack. Many nations in the Imperium devote large amounts of funds to defence and all of the big players are members of COMMAND. To several nations the military is a central pillar of their culture and is taken very seriously.

Science and Technology

The nations of the Imperium have varying stances toward technology. Most nations are based on high-tech industry, these nations include Polok, Cax, Valmar and Flinndiglo. On the other end are nations like Pisylvania, which is mostly rural. Scientific collaboration is high between Imperial nations. Research institues across the region enjoy the freedom to share their findings freely with those in other IOM nations, allowing for more efficient research. A few nations in the Imperium have space programs. Due to the cost of such programs few nations can afford to maintain them. Polok has an extensive program, with several space colonies, a network of global positioning and defence satellites and a varying range of space vehicles.

Geography and Environment

Map located here.

Most of the Imperium rests on one massive tectonic plate, known as the Imperial Plate, so earthquakes in the Imperium are rare. Volcanoes are also rare in the Imperium and most active ones reside in Red Islands and Valmar. However, inactive ones are evident in nearly all nations in the region and make up much of the breaktaking scenery of the Imperium.
The best scenery can be found in Pisylvania and Red Islands, due to their governments' pro-environment policies. Many Imperial nations have forsaken the environment in favour of the economy, but that does not mean any lack of scenery in the Imperium. Quite the contrary, there is much that not even the hand of man can destroy, such as the breathtaking views from Korok Peak or the majestic wildlife living in Lake Cronuipt.
Much of the Imperium's climate is temparate, although the occasional hurricane visits the region once or twice a year. Main sites for hurricans are on the eastern side of Polok and the western side of Flinngiglo. Rainfall is moderate in the Imperium; levels are mostly typical of a temparate climate. There are deserts in the region (in Polok, Flinndiglo and Red Islands) as well as mountainous areas in most IOM nations.
Geographically Red Islands is a special case. As can be seen from the map, it is not situated in the geograpical Imperium, instead it exists many miles east. Red Islands is geographically very large, about half the size of the mainland Imperium and therefore its climate varies greatly across the country. In the north the terrain is mostly desert, the middle is mostly temperate and tropical and the south is similar to arctic conditions.
