The Second Thorin War was a regional conflict that struck Thorin in 826 AF. Despite the name, it is mostly unrelated to the First Thorin War. The war mainly involved Thingamajiggers, Lugonomeks, Unleimeks, Xerconia, and, to a lesser extent, Heavysuit, New Valhall, and Surkaph.

Background

To truly understand the war, we must go back to the invasion of the region by the Thornichi in the 39th century before the founding of Thorin (BF). In the area of Thorin west of the mountains, there was a subgroup of the Lugonomeks, the natives of the region of Thorin, known as the Unleimeks. Like other Lugonomek tribes, they were either killed off or forced out of the region by the invading Thornichi. What made the Unleimeks unique, however, was that the rulers of a people known as the [[Thingans(people)|]] convinced their people that the Unleimeks' patron god, Unlei, was the same as the evil god Unleh in their mythology. In this way, a singular tribe was chosen to have its land taken away. Thousands of years later, some Unleimeks still claimed a birthright to the land and a vendetta against the Thingans for stealing it. When Lugonomeks reformed as a nation in 786 AF, most of their territory was in the region east of the mountains known as Zirconia, hundreds of miles from Thingamajiggers, the modern incarnation of the Thingan government. While efforts for retribution and forgivance for ancient transgressions were made by both sides of the conflict, the Unleimeks were still unwilling to forgive the Thingans. In 796 AF, a secret Thingan hate group formed in Lugonomeks known as the Order of the Red Stag. The Unleimeks were a large part of the Lugonomeki population and were able to convince the rest of Lugonomeks to annex a strip of land stretching across the coast of Thorin running all the way to the border of Thingamajiggers, saying it was to make up for their recent loss of the occupation of Xerconia. Nearly all of the settlers of this region were Unleimek.

Invasion of Thingamajiggers

In 826 AF, the Order of the Red Stag invaded Thingamajiggers, assuming that they would gain the support of the rest of Lugonomeks. They invaded on a national holiday in Thingamajiggers, the Day of the Hydranjan Martyrs, which honored the military in a celebration in the capital city. This, as well as a recent reduction of the standing numbers of the Thingamajiggeri army in an attempt to lower tension in the region, allowed for an unchecked blitzkreig. In a single day, they captured the province of Oosay entirely and had surrounded Thingamajiggers's capital, Hydranj.

Lugonomekan Reaction and the Secession of Unleimeks

Within hours of the original attack, the president of Lugonomeks, Tom Lantirfirmar, declared that the government had not made any order to invade Thingamajiggers, that the Lugonomekan government did not support the invasion, and that he was sending whatever military was still loyal to him into western Lugonomeks to put a stop to it. The Order was outraged and felt betrayed, assuming that most of Lugonomeks would support taking parts of Thingamajiggers by force, since it was the next logical step after invading Kilo Echo, and annexing Heavysuit and New Valhall. The Order declared its own government, and the westernmost state of Lugonomeks, Rifurūzh, as well as the unorganized western territory aquired from Heavysuit and New Valhall, seceded.

Xerconia's Reaction

In the years preceding the war, there was a man who had been rising in power in the Xerconian army. This man was General Vandaruruk. Thanks to somewhat shady dealings with the Xerconian senate, the Xylplax, Vandaruruk had been able to build up the diminished army into an army that was the match to any in Thorin. When the invasion of Thingamajiggers occured, Vandaruruk was made aware that his army might not be the best in the region. Vandaruruk, finally fed up with the Xylplax's failure to act, marched on the capital and declared a coup. With the government secured, he stirred the people against Unleimeks, calling Unleimeks' actions an outrage, and saying that they, Xerconia, were the only ones who could "mess with Thingamajiggers". With an army of over half a million, Xerconia prepared to invade. More later
