The Dominion of Unleimeks is a tiny, safe nation, renowned for its compulsory military service. It is currently categorized as "Iron fist consumerists". The people enjoy few civil rights and a very good economy, but political freedoms are outlawed. The head of state uses the title "til arkto", which in the past reffered to a monarch, and is essentially a dictator. The majority of the population originally hailed from and controlled an area that is now part of Thingamajiggers, and the nation hopes to take this territory back by force.

Linguistics and Nomenclature

Main article: Lugonomekan Language

The name for the nation, "Unleimeks", originally refered to a sub-tribe of Lugonomeks. The name means "children of Unlei". According to legend, the Unleimek tribe is descended from Unlei, the son of Lugon and the god of hunting. The name of the currency, the guloran, is the same used in ancient and modern Lugonomeks, and its name means "shining yellow stone".

History

Before the fall of Stadpræst

Many thousands of years BF, the Unleimeks were a part of the so-called Lugonomek Empire. The area that was traditionally assigned to the Unleimeks lay entirely within Thingamajiggers, running from Achran in the north to Thokran in the south. Within their territory lay the insil rifusven, an island at the site of the split of the great Gis river. This area was considered common ground by all sites, and people from all of Haekaz would come here to meet. Over the centuries, as the other tribes dwindled, Unleimeks became the largest tribe west of the mountains. Indeed, by 3900 years before the founding of Thorin (BF), all of what would become Thingamajiggers had a population that was majority Unleimek. Around 3870 BF, the various tribes of Thornichi, a group of tribes living in the mountains, decided they could no longer live together peacefully and decided to get their own lands. Unfortunately, this meant taking the land from the Lugonomeks. One of the tribes, called the Thingans, had three gods in their mythology, Jun, Unleh, and Kalet, who killed their gaurdian god, Thok. By coincidence, these names resembled the names of three Lugonomek gods, Yun, Unlei, and Galeth. Because of this, Thingan leaders were able to justify the invasion by saying it was only just for them to get revenge of these peoples. In 3829, Insil Rifusven fell to the Thingans. In 3827, the Lugonomek capital of Stadpræst fell to another tribe of Thornichi called the Zircoromborgians.

After the Fall of Stadpræst

Despite ths, the Unleimeks kept fighting the Thingans, even though it was clear they were losing. Finally, in 3821 BF, the last remnants of any Lugonomek army, the Army of North Unleimeks, was defeated in the Battle of Acrhan. All of the Unleimek soldiers were either killed or captured, and the region soon fell to the Thingans. For the most part, the Unleimeks were allowed to continue life as they had. Over the millenia, Unleimeks, along with many other Luognomeks, left the region. Around 600 years after the founding of Thorin (AF), Lugonomeks began to return to their homeland. However, this was mostly in the eastern parts of Thorin, known as Zirconia. In 780 AF, when the other Lugonomeks were ready to form their own nation, the Unleimeks refused to join until they could seize some of their former territory. Since the other Lugonomeks were adamant about controlling a contiguous nation and didn't want to challenge the superpower of Thingamajiggers, the demands came to naught. The Unleimeks finally decided to join a new, unified Lugonomeks in 786 AF.

After the Founding of Lugonomeks

The Unleimeks were one of the last five remaining Lugonomek tribes, and formed a large part of the population. Even so, they had considerable influence on the government of Lugonomeks, enough push for the vast expansion that Lugonomeks had around 820. However, the desire to expand was not only held by Ulneimeks, but by many other Lugonomeks at the time. In 796, a society known a as the Order of the Red Stag formed. It gave the appearance of just being a combination of a social club and gymnasium, but somewhere along the line it began building an army. The society used symbols of ancient Unleimeks, such as their red and green uniforms, which were colors associated with Unleimeks, their red-hilted dagger, which was a symbol of the god Unlei, and even the name, as Unlei was believed to sometimes take the form of a red stag. When Lugonomeks began annexing western territories, the majority of the people who moved into them were Unleimek. The odd shape of Lugonomeks at this time was caused by the combined desires to gain land bordering Thingamajiggers (supposedly for trade reasons), to remain nearly contiguous, and to not have too many displaced citizens to deal with.

The Second Thorin War

Finally, in 827 AF, the Order of the Red Stag invaded Thingamajiggers. When the rest of Lugonomeks learned of this, they were appalled, and the Lugonomekan government immediately sent in troops to put a stop to it. Upon hearing that they were not supported in the invasion, western politicians chose to form their own nation. Thus, the Dominion of Unleimeks was formed. A senator from the newly-formed state of Rifuruzh, Benedict Adamek, was chosen as its leader. He took the title of til arkto, the name of the leaders of each tribe in ancient Lugonomeks. He quickly established a dictatorship and demanded compulsory military service to help the invasion of the much larger nation of Thingamajiggers. After a few months of fighting, Unleimeks was finally forced to surrender after the capital of Samyulstad was captured.

After the War

The treaty ending the war stated that Unleimeks must give up all land taken from Thingamajiggers and New Valhall, pay reparations to Thingamajiggers, Xerconia, Lugonomeks, and New Valhall, allow open trade, not keep a standing army of more than 5,000 men, abide by the decisions of the Thorinian International Council, must not build certain weapons, and give up all samples and research of the pyramic plague they planned to use to wipe out the Thingans. Even though the government was under the scrutiny of the TIC, it remained a fascist dictatorship. The government had to deal with turmoil and chaos left over from the war, and placed nearly half of the country under martial law. They began cracking down even harder on anyone suspected of being against the government, and forbade any form of religion because it "distracted from loyalty to the state".

The Death of Adamek

Ever since before the war, some of the higher-ups in in the Unleimekan government were sorely disappointed with the way Adamek was running the things, and decided to do something about it. A conspiracy, headed by the Minister of War, Mark Ablomek, hatched a plot to murder Adamek. One night in January of the following year, the plan came to fruition. Adamek was holding a dinner at his home in the mountains. The cook, who was part of the plot, spiked Adamek's wine with cyanide. However, this seemed to have little, if any, effect on til arkto. After a few bewildered murmurs, the conspirators first tricked til artko to go down to the cellar for more wine, and pushed him down the stairs. To their surprise, Adamek returned to his guests with the wine seemingly unscathed, saying he must have tripped. Desperate, the conspirators grabbed Adamek and tried to carry him out of the house. Adamek put up quite a fight, and one of the conspirators grabbed a spit from the fireplace and beat him senseless. The conspirators then dumped him in the lake, and after shooting Adamek in the head, Ablomek turned his pistol on the cook and killed him, as well. The story went over easily enough: Adamek, very drunk, under the influence of hallucinogenic drugs put in the wine by a treacherous servant, and allegedly suffering from dementia, had attempted to swim across a mountain lake in the middle of winter, and had drowned. Ablomek became til arkto, declaring that it was always Adamek's plan that he should succeed him.

The Death of Adamek and the succession of Shapfirmar

By 829 AF, Ablomek's harsh anti-religion policies had made him extremely unpopular. A resistance group known as the Crusaders, which Adamek had also dealt with, was reforming. In April of 829 AF, they managed to infiltrate the capitol and capture Adamek. They held him captive for over two months, during which they were able to gain support around the country and overthrow the old government. The capital was relocated to Kantif, where the resistance was strongest, and Dante Shapfirmar, the leader of the Crusaders, declared himself the Protector of Faith of Unleimeks.

Flag

The flag of Unleimeks uses the symbol and colors of ancient Unleimeks. It also had a bundle of sticks bound around Unlei's Dagger, to symbolize unity under a powerful government.
