History
The first Xanthornians came to the Xanthornian peninsula around 37,000 years ago, rafting across the Bay of Aeron to come to the South-East point of modern-day Xanthorn. They lived mainly along the coast, extending into the Mertel Plains, but they did not spread over the Fendwar Mountains until 30,000 years ago. There they met the Haktarians, and unfortunately, war followed. The Haktarians and the Xanthornians fought for many millenia, constant warfare pushing their technological advances at a much faster rate than normal. Roughly 6000BCE, the Dalamundian Empire attacked, starting its great expansion, Haktarians and Xanthornians stopped their conflict to destroy the mutual enemy. Dalamund was repelled, yet only about 120 years of peace followed between the two nations. Finally about 4000BCE, after much more bloodshed and conflict, the First Plague swept across the continent. For reasons that scientists can still only guess at today, the Xanthornians were entirely immune to the Plague, and after it was finished they walked through the silent cities of Haktar, believing it to be the Gods that had finally exterminated their enemies. The day became known as “Mekron Kai” or Triumph of the Gods, and was celebrated yearly until the Socialist Revolution of 600CE, where religion was wiped from the nation. Xanthorn grew to encompass Haktar, and has stayed that size since.
After the Second Plague had ravaged the world in 732BCE, once again leaving Xanthornians untouched, King Orgard II set out into the world to make an Empire. The Xanthornian Empire covered a fourth of the known world, and lasted for 1332 years until the Socialist Revolution. In that time the people of Xanthorn led the world in many aspects, in particular the world of Medicine. But it was also the time of the philosopher Quorus, the artist Jankel and most famously, the family Fude, who between them in three generations made more progress in the field of science than in the previous millenium.
The Socialist Revolution of 600CE put the current governmental structure in place. Led by the genius Renton Renpol and the adored Amelia Salandri, it freed the nations from the corrupting Empire forming the Commonwealth, and put in place the people's rights and Parliament. The Socialist Government has stood to this day, through wars and several failed revolutions. With the collapse of the Commonwealth 7 years ago, it is the oldest structure in Xanthorn.
