Xirya is a Kiravian colony nation in the Grey Sea States.

History

Colonial Xirya

Xirya's first permanent inhabitants were Kiravian colonists. They built their first 5 cities along the South Coast. Gradually, the whole area that we know as modern Xirya was settled and explored. Kirav kept its colony well, until a war left the West Coast of Greater Kirav blockaded, and cutting off Xirya's supplies. THe nation was forced to become economically self-suffiecient, and did so by exporting electrical machinery and artificial wood. The population grew to a fair size and formal relations were opened with Euleos, and later Amaratsu. In Cosciv year 2056, Xirya applied for colonial sovereignity and was granted that status.

Independant Years

While Xirya was no longer under Kiravian semi-autonomous rule, it still was part of the Empire. With this came calls to service. Xiryan factories were contracted to build ships and Aeromers and Xiryan citizens to staff naval vessels in attepts to control the Grey Sea. Xiryans were also called to send troops in the Belfastian War to fight for Kirav's many fledgeling colonies there. It still developed on its own, building a colony on Runkirr, and making alliances with Amaratsu, Euleos, and Ileou. Culturally, Xiryan's flourished in architecture, music, and jewelwork, as well as language and the sciences, contributing much to the Empire.

Re-Imperialisation

At the end of Xirya's independant period, Governmental instability was critical, and anarchy iminent. The National Executive turned over the colony to the Empire, and disbanded his own government. Under the new National Executive and Governor, Dan McIntyre, Xirya became even more prosperous, and more eminant amongst the Grey Sea States.

Epidemic

In Cosciv year 2099, a virus called Nurtition-Energy Deficiency Syndrome broke out in Euleos and spread to Xirya via refugees. Agricultural areas were abandoned, and trade severed leaving a toll on the economy. Xiryans participated in a regional summit in Amaratsu, and worked with foriegn scientists, helping Euleos find a cure to the plague. The colony remains devastated, but National Executive Dan McIntyre has called ofr an international effort to rebuild Euleos and Xirya.

Aftermath of Epidemic

The damage to the Xiryan economy was easily repaired. After resolving the crisis, the Governor and the Emperor of Amaratsu returned to Xirya. In an effort to gain farmland in case of a disaster, Xirya invaded and annexed the minor nation of Candálóba. This has raised a protest among some Xiryans, who deemed further expansion of the colony unnecessary to support the population.

Government

Xirya is a Type II colony, but with special editions to its government made clear in its Charter.

The colony is a Civilocracy, with a Governor as head of government, and the Emperor of Kiravia as head of state. The governor is elected to the Candidacy by a series of popular elections, and then, if approved, appointed by the Emperor into office. The Governor has the power to promote and appoint officers to certain positions, to a certain degree, so that comptent officials are not dismissed for politcial reasons. Under the Governor, all executive and offcial functions are ahndled by a bureaucracy.

The Xiryan legislative body is called the Provinciaix Legislatoriuv. It is a nonpartisan, non-populist, deliberative chamber that debates and creates laws. It has the power to pass revenue laws and buisness-related laws, while the Governor cannot.

Economy

The Xiryan economy is highly modernized. The Xiryan service industry dominates, mostly with professional services. Information Technology is the cheif industry. Xiryan IT is very advanced, making it in popular demand across the Empire. It also supplies the necessary technologies to work Xiryan agriculture and manufacturing. Xirya's farms are mostly industrial, to supply rubber, ethynol, and other materials. However, the Xiryan Nutritional Agriculture sector is sufficuent to feed the nation. This agriculture is sophisticated, employing hydroponics, Biochemicals, and advanced genetic engineering. Developing and Manufacturing of Chemicals, Materials, Biofabricants, Mechanisms, and Circuitry is cheifly done in the Meridian Territory. The colony depends immensely on trade with Iscova, Kyshynska, and Kirav. Unfrotunately, the Xiryan trade outside of the Grey Sea is controlled by Kilonesian thalassocrats.

Demographics

Xirya has a somewhat mixed population of Kiravian settlers of Khar and Cosciv descent, and Native Peoples, mostly of Paleo-Amaratsuan or Palaeo-Eulean Descent.

Distribution

Xirya's population density is greatest in the Central part of the country, farily, evenly spread with medium density in the other inland areas, and lowest in the Northeast Inlands and the Mountains. THere is a thickly inhabited chain of cities along the coast.

Race

While Xiryans generally place a higher importance upon Ethnicity than race, many social and political lines have been drawn between Cosciv-Khar Kiro-Xiryans, and Native Xiryans.

A chart of Xirya's racial breakdown.

Cocivian Xiryans make up the largest group at around 50%.

Native Xiryans make up the second largest. THeir population did not decline with the Kiravian colonization, it was merely outnumbered by the settlers.

Khars, also settlers from Kirav, are the next largest group, but social differences between Coscivs and Khars are minimal in Xirya.

Immigrants from other Grey Sea nations make up the final group.
