History
The Birth of Esternarx
On January 15, 2006, a fairly large revolutionary group from TheNeoRomanEmpire boarded several ships bound for the unclaimed area known as Norway and settled on the western coast. They founded the city of Esternarx, naming it after the only land entrance to the vast city, The Eastern Arch. Emais Freedhelm, the leader of the group, became president of The Free City-State of Esternarx. Vast, sweeping reforms in civil rights, political freedom, and economic liberty were put into place as the new president drafted a constitution for their new independent nation. Under their new leader, the people of Esternarx were fast becoming freer and more prosperous than even NeoRome.
The Fall of The Arx Corporation
Ever since it's birth, The Arx Corporation, founded by Jacob Vargas, was the biggest and most powerful company in the nation. They were even more powerful than the government itself at one time. It alone accounted for almost half of the GDP of Esternarx and owned almost one-fourth of the property. Arx Corporation business ventures included a massive computer manufacturing wing, an automobile manufacturing wing, a bank, and multiple retail and food businesses. It even began a controversial mercenary business that sold terrorist cells, chemical weapons, and biological weapons. Ultimately, it was this that was their undoing.
Biological weapons were unleashed in Arkotech Labs, killing hundreds of employees and effectively ending the development and production of all biological and chemical weapons. It is still uncertain as to exactly how this happened, theories ranged from a terrorist attack to a vast government conspiracy, but the final verdict was that it was a mere computer malfunction. Arx Corporation stock dropped like a bomb and the international share holders were left holding worthless stock certificates and lawsuit notices. Jacob Vargas commited suicide a day after the incident. The shattered remains of the company were sold off to the highest bidder and the only remaining monument to the former power and prestige of The Arx Corporation is The Arx Tower, now owned and operated by various businesses and companies.
The Colonization of America
For some time, Esternarx had been planning the establishment of a colony in North America.Finally, on March 3, 2006, almost three million colonists arrived in America and established The Free American Colony of Esternarx under the elected colonial governor, Jackson Stone. The new colony was quickly populated by more Esternarxian citizens seeking a better life in the new world and its population soon grew to over 15 million people. The colonization of America was not completely smooth however. Soon after the colonists arrived, the government of a neighboring nation, Durick Veta, was attacked by communist rebels. They assassinated the ruler's wife and took over the government palace despite military intervention by Esternarx. The crumbling government purchased a mercenary army from Paladin Manufacturing to help quell the revolution and restore law and order in the nation. This drama is believed to have contributed to the failing mental health of the president of Esternarx, Emais Freedhelm.
Neo-Nazi Attack
After the president of Esternarx experienced serious mental trauma and declared war on nazism throughout the world, he was locked away in an asylum and the vice president took control of the government. On March 19 the Neo-Nazi Rebellion(NNR), smuggled a nuclear bomb inside Esternarx City and detonated it, killing over 300 million people. The Free-City State of Esternarx was completely destroyed. The American Colony of Esternarx across the Atlantic and the city of Boston in particular was soon in a state of panic and widespread destruction as the news of their destroyed motherland reached their ears. The colonial government was overthrown and two rival extremist factions began a fight for control. The Neo-Nazi Rebellion(NNR) and the Anti Neo-Nazi Rebellion(ANNR) both participated in rioting and burning of the city as well as genocidal civilian killings. Many nations from all over the world helped to stop the uprising but eventually, the newly freed Durick Veta saved the colony from destruction at the hands of the radicals and annexed it to their own nation.
The Re-Birth of Esternarx
Several million colonists escaped the nuclear attack and began a long trip to New Zealand to establish a new nation there. Daren Freedhelm, the younger brother of the former president, was elected absolute dictator of the remaining population of Esternarx. New Zealand was colonized by the refugees from Esternarx and soon an election was held in which Daren Freedhelm was elected president of the New Republic of Esternarx. The nation of Greater Sakha disputed the election but they had no data that proved it was false so Daren Freedhelm remained in power.
The Australian Annexation
An explosion of population due to immigration from all over the world to Esternarx quickly filled the borders of the nation to overflowing. The only solution was to annex more lands. Tasmania, New Caledonia, Victoria, New South Wales, and part of South Australia were soon integrated into the New Republic of Esternarx under different names. Before the annexation, Esternarx consisted of Norderain and Sutherain. After the annexation, they gained the lands of Caldenya, Rhodes, Estenshire, and Estenmont.

Government
The government of Esternarx consists of three levels, each with two branches, but all are subject to the set of objective laws laid out in the Constitution. The three levels are the federal government, the provincial governments, and the city councils. They each have a judicial branch and an executive branch. There is no legislative branch in Esternarx because laws are based on the constitution and no new laws are drafted. As far as new issues that arise, the judicial branch is responsible for interpreting how the laws of the constitution apply.
The federal government is the highest level of government in Esternarx and consists of an executive and judicial branch. The executive branch consists of a president and a senate. Their job is to manage the armed forces and protect the nation from foreign attack. The judicial branch consists of a supreme court whose job it is to interpet the constitution and apply it to issues and cases that may arise on a national scale.
