Colony

In politics and in history, a colony is a territory under the immediate political control of a geographically-distant Nation. Many NationStates nations may have Colonies.

Colony is also a popular name prefix.

• Colonies may be termed in a variety of ways. Ariddia's "colonies" are officially described as a "special province" (Eshyosha, Gnatanamo), a "semi-autonomous overseas territory" (the Ariddian Arctic Islands) or even, in ESAT's case, as a fully sovereign nation.
