It is charged with defending the Republic against threats originating outside Abtian borders, restoring peace within the Republic should the regular law enforcement services be overwhelmed, provide emergency and relief assistance to the population.

The ARDF is also seen by Abtians as a symbol of their sovereignty and independence. "Made of Abtians and for Abtians!" is a de-facto motto of the armed forces, surely referring to the fact that they no longer have to serve any masters but themselves (they still have to follow their hierarchy, though).
