Alexander Leeuvenhoek (39, born of Eyric city) is the current minister of foreign affairs in the Kingdom of Einmyria. He is the first minister in his position to be elected by popular vote, and the youngest minister of foreign affairs in the history of the Kingdom.

Auspicious Beginnings

During the televised debate between candidates for the position of the minister of Foreign Affairs in 2007, Leeuvenhoek overwhelmed his challengers, and impressed the general public with his impressive vision of Einmyria playing a greater role in the United Nations as well as the region of the Federalist Europe Alliance. Critics of Leeuvenhoek's win in the elections, however, say that the general public fell for his good looks and his dazzling charm, and that as an inexperienced minister, he might lead the Kingdom into ruin.

Under his supervision, the Kingdom of Einmyria has joined the United Nations. However, as one of the smallest countries in the FEA region, and one of the newest members, it's obvious that this man has his work cut out for him. It is still too early to tell what kind of impact this young, charismatic man has on the future of Einmyria.

The Man Behind the Policies

In a recent television interview on KOEN3, he admitted that he often wondered whether he should have waited until he gained more ministerial experience before going for the top job, but that thought usually sticks around "...for all of two seconds. I realized I had a lot I wanted to accomplish during my stay, and I wanted to stick around to do it! I guess the age factor's advantageous for me too, because the job doesn't wear me out as it would have if I was older."

"I remember my first time at an international event; this was just after I had settled in my office, so to speak. We were just walking to some official function in the UN where all the Foreign Ministers were to meet, and Erik [Leeuvenhoek's 44-year old aide] was behind me. Everyone thought the Foreign Minister was him, and I was totally ignored!" he remembers with a chuckle. "Ever since then, I remember to take a team with me, and ask them to all try to brief me on last-minute items before the meeting so that it's obvious I'm the minister!"

Chuckles aside, it's obvious that Leeuvenhoek is a man of action and someone who is not afraid of making hard decisions and taking responsibility for them. One of his first acts was to abolish all tariffs, whether it be import or export, in order to promote free trade and for Einmyria to adjust to an increasingly global world. This move didn't gain him any fans; if any, it infuriated many in the auto industry which, under the Ex-Monarch King Alexei's reign, enjoyed a great deal of protectionism. Luckily for him, although many of the citizens grumbled, they saw it as a necessary move in order to make many of the inefficient and bloated industries to become more streamlined and viable for international expansion.

The "Life" section of Y Magazine recently did an interview on what he liked to do when he was outside the office. In that interview, he admitted a casual fondness for long walks, watching the odd film, and dining out, although napping had been a high priority on his task list, given his odd working hours. As one of the most eligible bachelors in the Kingdom, he has also recently been seen dining with a number of very beautiful, very single, celebrity women, including that of Einmyrian super-star actress Cassandra Koboldt. He has neither confirmed or denied rumors, and instead, laughed it off by saying that they were all friends or acquaintances.

A firm advocate for Environmental protection, he currently drives an experimental fully-solar-powered car, and has made a policy for all future Ministry of Foreign Affairs vehicles be of an alternative energy source. He currently lives in a Green neighborhood, where composting and recycling is a must, and in an experimental Green Home, where cooling and heating systems are all natural.

Rumors

  • A small rumor (perhaps started by hopeful, interested men) has been going around which says that Leeuvenhoek is actually bisexual, and has been seen in the company of openly-gay or openly-bisexual men. Leeuvenhoek has largely ignored comments such as this, and usually gives the person who asked the question a knowing grin and wink, which has further confused matters. "My private life is my own," he says nonchalantly.
  • A Royal Palace insider revealed that Leeuvenhoek has recently begun to spend many hours walking and talking with HRH Queen Joanne alone around the vast palace estate grounds, almost on a daily basis. It is unclear whether the two have established a close working relationship that includes friendship, or whether romance is actually in the air. However, as HRH is known to be notoriously secretive about her dating, it is unlikely that this rumor is true, and neither party have commented on this particular rumor.
