Introduction
The People's Republic of Alfegos resides in the region of Nova. This nation is also presently the UN Delegate for Nova.
Origins of Name
The name Alfegos was originally spelt Al'Fego, meaning "The Forest" in Fegosian. It is still spelt so in the Fegosian seal of Alfegos.
History
Prehistory
The country now known as Alfegos is believed to have been colonised by prehistoric man around about 6000 BC, travelling from other islands in the Nova archipelgio. The oldest records found, the skull and upper body bones of Homo Sapiens, have been dated to 5500 BC. There were only a few hundred people who lived a hunter-gatherer life in the rainforests of Alfegos, before the advent of farming. There is much evidence of this phase of history, with many flint weapons found in the tombs found in the forests.
The Age of Growth and Fall
When farming came about, archeological evidence has shown that it co-incided with the massive growth of the population of the island, to a few thousand, and the deforestation of a large area of the Polinas region. The main crops known to have been grown include a primitive form of maize, and what appears to be sugar cane. Yet, as a result of this, desertification set in by about 3000 BC in Polinas region, leading to the eventual population decline in 2800 BC.
The Classical Era
It is not known which country brought classical technology to Alfegos, but it is known that it bought about the mass fishing of the seas to provide for the country, as well as sustainable farming on the coastal regions. As a result, many marble cities sprung up in the north, and the men began to spread to the uninhabited central and south of the nation. This power that was in Alfegos is only proved by coins bearing a different language to what is almost unchanged Fegosian, and the reamins of buildings completely different to traditional Alfegan architecture. They are known to have arrived in 1800 BC and supported the Alfegos civilisation as an enclave until 400 AD. Then, the civilisation disappeared without a trace, leaving the country to collapse completely into anarchy.
The Dark Age
After this the Alfegos population lived in many small tribal kingdoms, in total about 40, which continually fought for dominance of the land. In this time, many of the ways learnt by the people were lost, leading to more desertification and a massive fall in population. The most famous of these kingdoms was the Zev'rai'ni, who were the dominant power in the Zevkhay province. Many wars were fought, shown by the findings of many battlefields on the borders of the old cities. Soon though, only 4 kingdoms were left by 600 AD.
The Renaissance
In 708 AD, when surving traces of writing have been found, the country was united under one king: Rai'so the First. His war of takeover on the island made sure that the kingdom was united again. The techniques used during the Advent of Technology were rediscovered in the neglected ruins found overgrown in the restored rainforests, leading to the massive growth in population to 22, 500 in 1700 AD. Over this time, many technologies were discoverd by the people, including what appears to be the first recorded examples of sterilised surgery under the influence of pain killers, with complicated operations such as cataract removal being routinly performed. But the country was still expanding, with only a small military meaning that economy flourished, and few lived in poverty as it is though of.
The Industrial Age
In 1713, an Alfegosian engineer named Basil Alins discovered the power of electricity, with a number of other inventors. This was put to use at first by powering machines in the massive goods factories via coal, but then was decided to be powered more efficiently, through the much more abundabt oil wells in Milkavich province and the small scale Hydroelectric mills in more isolated towns. The industrial age lead to the awareness of many other nations outside of the island as fishing boats brought back tales of other civilistaions. This led to another buildup of the countries army and navy, to the point where it made it viable to conquer many other nations. Alfegos was found to have conquered many provinces such as parts of other Nova nations. This was also the start of the age of freedoms, where democracy was started in 1867, after the downfall of the monarchy in a peaceful revolution, an amazing feat in the country. However, this soon ended in 1892 at the start of the Age of Strife
The Age of Strife
Slowly, the colonies of Alfegos were abandoned, with no more existing by 1904 as the massive economic depression in the country set in, preceeding the two world wars, which Alfegos stayed isolated from with only the few occasional reports.
The divisions in Alfegos still existed, and thus led to differences in ideal. This developed into two major blocks: democracy, and the new ideal of Communism. Eventuall, civil war broke out in 1950 with the communists taking over the industrial province of Milkavich, before they marched on the capital. Even though certain powers aided the communists destroy the capital, the government stopped the communists for good with the ultimate show of power: the deployment of lethal modified cyanide gas upon the communist stronghold in Milkavich in 1954. After this, the communist movement collapsed, and the void was filled by the democratic supporters, who re-elected the president, and helped rebuild the country.
In 1981, the smaller communist movement again started civil war, almost in the same fashion as before.
But before they could attack the city, the democrat- loyal military struck a massive blow on the enemy with the combined use of tear gas and massive ground assault, smashing enemy resistance.
The communists retaliated with the use of blister gases and other lethal gases from an unknown source on the regained territories. But this soon made them collapse, by many of the supporters rejoining the Democrats
The war ended in a massive firefight in Milkavich, in which 510 civilians and 1570 military personnel died.
All in all, through both wars, over 320 000 people lost their lives.
The Age of Reason
After this, the government had no opposition in ruling, and managed to bring about a technological revolution in just 2 years, with many campaigns for the people to get their homes integrated with national computer and technology networks. The armed forces were rebuilt, and the full potential of the massive deposits offshore and onshore Alfegos was realised.
Recent History
Recently, Alfegos suffered the worst floods in 400 years, almost ending in the collpase of the High Polinas Dam. However, swift intervention allowed it to be saved in time. Also, Alfegos has had more contact with the outside world, with many countries building embassies in its nation, and expanding to create the colony of New Alfegos. It also supported its greatest ally, Damirez, in the control of the former province of Alestra. Alfegos has been involved in numerous peacekeeping activities, such as the supression of civil war in Solenial, Drvarska, Zahrean and Grunt. Finally, the people who now realsie the power of democracy joined the Free World Alliance, to try and stop any more civil wars like it had in its past.
Geography
Alfegos is a massive island nation in the Nova archipelgio, and has a land claim of the entire island it is on, of around about 150 200 square miles. It posesses a wide variety of scenery and landscapes, from the flat fields of the north and south to the Mountains of the Moon and Solace which act as borders of the three provinces. Alfegos has some extensive river systems, famously the Zevkhos river running from lake Fega and the frequently flooded Polinas river. Alfegos is between a latitude of about 5° and 14°north, meaning that the island has a tropical climate. This is reflected by the vast interior rainforests. The higher mountainous regions have a more temperate - alpine climate. The arable land to the coasts are also tropical, with frequent rains and a year-round growing season.
There are many island chains in the area, such as the Los'vi Islands to the northwest.
Government
Alfegos is run by a buerocratic democracy. The senate is comprised of the Ministers of each Ministry (elected by the ministerial staff), regional delegates (elected every 3 years by the people) and the head judges of the country. These are overseen by the president and his deputy, who are elected every 4 years by the people. The entire system is partyless, and no political parties are allowed to be formed. Any alliance or banding together of senetors involving money is an offence, punishable by 5 year expulsion.

It also has friendly relations with members of the Nova region, such as The Principality of Damirez, and has extended relations with the USSZ and Solenial. IT also has a mutual trade alliance with Prevania.
Military
In Alfegos, all people aged between 18 and 19 must do one year of military service, in either of the three armed forces.
Army
The army of Alfegos is divided into 20 divisions: 1st - 7th Mechanised Infantry 8th - 14th Armour 15th - 19 th Artillery 20 th Paratroopers
The army follows standrad division, with 10 regiments per division, 5 Batallions per regiment, 4 companies per batallion and 5 platoons per company. It uses the standrad NATO command designations for officers and NCOs.
The army uses the AF-07 as its standard assault weapon, the KSB-AP1 as its sidearm and the Stryker as its standard IFV. All the infantry are mechanized, and the artillery is moving towards being completely self-propelled.
Examples of vehicles used in the Alfegos army include the LY4 Wolfhound Main Battle Tank, set to become the main battle tank of Alfegos.
The Alfegos navy consists of two surface fleets.
Each one is led by two battleships, accompanied by the unique Alfegos Grand Cruiser class, which is basically a massive cruiser. Cruisers, destroyers and frigates are also used by the ALfegos armed forces to support the main ships, along with gunboats, usually deployed in swarms to take on larger ships, as learnt from the war in Alestra.
The Alfegos navy is usually supported by planes from the 4 supercarriers, each holding 60 multirole tactical fighters. These supercarriers are usually as powerful as Cruisers, fire wise, as they are so valuable to the Alfegos fleet: most tactics revolve around fighter support.
One experimental class, the "Fire Class" railgun ship was a failure, both ships eventually being sunk, though none of their technology compromised.
Alfegos also operates a classified number of nuclear subs, each armed with Trident IV MIRV nuclear missiles, or occasionallly BZ dispersal warheads, when non-lethal force is to be used.
Air Force
The Alfegos air force consists of 100 air wings, and 100 helicopter wings, with diverse mixes of roles:

The air force is usually based onland in Liberty airport, New Zevkhay, Milkavich international and in Polinopolis military base.
Transport
In Alfegos, there is a road system that is very efficient, due to the continual repair by private enterprises. It is divided into three classes of roads:
- National - The main motorways, with on average 4 lanes. that link the major cities.
- Regional- The main roads, that link towns, or are used as rat runs when the trunk roads are under repair.
- Communal - The small roads that link villages
Most regional roads are private owned: the national roads and communal roads are toll free.
There is also a well developed public transport system, particularly in new zevkhay, where no cars are allowed on the streets in the city.
Instead, there is a mix of monorail and maglev services for the towns, and hi-speed maglev for the inter-town links. The maglev trains are the best, as they are silent, and can travel at high speeds, cutting journey times in half. They are also cheaper than driving by car.
There is a smaller bus service, that run on Hydrogen fuel cells, and are also cheaper than car travel. This is usually used for shorter journeys, or a trips in the suburbs.
Internal Divisions
Alfegos is divided into 3 large regions: Polinas in the north, Milkavich in the centre and Zevkhay in the south. Polinas is mainly agricultural, due to its lack of forest and large quantity of arable land. The main crops grown include maize and suger cane.
Milkavich is a more industrial province of ALfegos, origianally the powerhouse of the nation due to the many mines ond oilwells in the area which are now slowly shutting down due to cheaper foreign imports and the rise of manufacturing industries.
Finally, Zevkhay has a small amount of forest, but is mainly dedicated to crops such as rice. It is the province in which the capital of New Zevkhay can be found.
Overseas Claims
New Alfegos
Alfegos has a claim overseas of about 12 300 sq. miles called New Alfegos, on a former land of Vanatia. New Fegos consists of about 11 towns, one a military base, of which their economy is based around the many oilwells of the region, and in the rich mines of the Stormkeeper mountains to the west, which form a crescent surrounding the claimed land. The most important thing aboutt he colony is its plague of mutated creatures, caused by previous years of chemical warfare. So far, the only species ever spotted are the "Megapig" and the "Great Wolf", both of which are shot on sight due to their dangerous nature.
The small colony is connected to the outside world by the port-town of New Milkavich, which hadnles the vast amounts of processed metal and oil shipped out to Alfegos and other nations.
Neo'Ilos
Neo'ilos was a former Zaheran island, claimed by ALfegos to use as a military base, airbase and now as a producer of cheap Tungsten and Silver, in massive opencast and shaft mines cut into the island.
There is also a military bunker left there by the AHC, which is thought to be used by the ALfegos military as a missile silo.
