The Rekr Yhleahd Socdelym Naymsc of Amarius, a large nation in the Wysteria region, prides itself on officially having the largest number of "classic" cars (dating from 1979 and prior) still found on the roads. Uranium mining is the largest industry in the country, and that could possibly be explained by the fact that almost half of the machinery and weapons in the military are nuclear powered.

LANGUAGE

The language of Amarius is Al Bhed. (OOC:Some may recognize it as the language of the character Rikku and others of her race from Final Fantasy X.)

The language is quite simple. Here is a short step-by-step guide to Al Bhed.

PRONUNCIATION First is pronunciation. There are many dialects of Al Bhed based on pronunciation. The main dialect of Amarius, Jahxie, while being differently spoken, is written the same way as all other Al Bhed.

RULES OF JAHXIE PRONUNCIATION
1. Vowel sounds

    a.  A is pronounced as "ah"(in some situations as "a" in apple)
    b.  E is pronounced as "eh"(like in "elk")
          *in only one word this is differend.  Ledo, meaning "city", is pronounced "LEE-doh"
    c.  I is pronounced as "eeh"(like "ea" in "eat") and sometimes as "i" in "in".
    d.  O is pronounced as "oh"
    e.  U is pronounced as "ooh"(like "oo" in "boot")

2. In any word with a "y" followed by a vowel, the "y" is silent. For example, tyo (meaning "day") would be pronounced "toe". Pyo (meaning "bay") as "poe", cyo ("say") as "koe", etc. etc.
3. In any word with a "y" followed by an "h", the sound is that of a normal "a" in Al Bhed. That is to say, it sounds like "aw" in the English "gnaw".
4. On its own, "y" is pronounced like "ee" in "free".
5. If the letter "k" preceeds an "n", the "k" is NEVER silent.

HOLIDAYS

There are 9 major holidays in Amarius. New Years Day is the first, which takes place on January 1.

The next holiday is Tyo uv Muja ("Day of Love") celebrated on February 14. Obviously, this was taken from the Earth holiday Valentine's Day.

Akk Vacdejym(ACK VACK dey jeem), which takes place on the first Sunday of the fourth month, is a holiday based back to ancient times. Eggs are first harvested from chickens on the Friday before this holiday(before this date the eggs are allowed to hatch). Eggs are hard-boiled, decorated, and hidden for children to find. Dinner always includes hard boiled eggs, and they cook the last chicken to lay eggs that year(if more than one chicken is needed, they cook the last two to lay eggs).

Vaycd uv Cd.(Cyehd) Knavuknucek(VAEK'D oov KAYD KNAH voo knoo' sek), or Feast of St. Knavuknucek, celebrates the birth- and deathday of Knavuknucek Lrynmac, an 11th century Lord High Asbanun of Amarius who is recognized as the creator of the Mono, a popular instrument until the end of the 15th century. He also put laws into place against the punishment that was used for adultery: putting to death the adulterer, lover, and the neighbor(of the same gender as the spouse of the adulterer) of the adulterer. The practice of putting the neighbor of the adulterer to death was that a neighbor was supposed to tell any suspicious activity of a husband or wife to their spouse. If an affair was found out, the neighbor was accused of not fulfilling his duty, and was put to death. St. Knavuknucek ended this practice, and ended the practice of cutting off fingers, toes, and arms for stealing. He was murdered in 1042 at the age of 57 by his second wife. Two days later, the people demanded that he be declared a saint, and a feast was made on his birthday, which was ironically also his day of death.*

Ehtabahtahla Tyo is celebrated on July 4th. This celebration is the marking of Amarius's forming in 134 AD. Amarius was created by the Jahxiea tribe unifying with the Oymyny tribe and creating a central seat of government. Particularly accurate records tell us this event happened on the fourth day of the full cycle of the largest moon Amari, from which Amarius is named.* This date is July 4th in modern terms.

Tajuquhecry'c Pendrtyo is a holiday consisting of a feast and a day of party in modern times. August 23rd is the birthday of Tajuquhecry, the first Lady High Asbnacc. She was born on this date in 1654 and ascended to rule on September 4th 1685 when her father died of cholera.

Rymmufaah, on October 31, is another "borrowed" holiday. This is Halloween.

Dryhgckejehk takes place on the last Thursday in November. It is a feast celebrating the end of Harvest season. Originally the date was November 20, but the date was changed in 1942 because of the American holiday of Thanksgiving.

Lrnecdsyc is the third borrowed holiday. Christmas in Amarius is just like Christmas on Earth.
