Asgarnian Marines

The Asgarnian Marines, or the Asgarnian Marine Corps, is the branch of the Asgarnian Armed Forces that is responsible for power projection from the sea while utilizing the mobility of the Asgarnian Naval Force to rapidly deliver combined-arms task forces to global crises. Unlike many Marine groups, this Marine Corps does not answer to the Navy. While the Asgarnian Naval Force maintains a naval infantry, the need for marines is always present. The Asgarnian Marine Corps currently maintains 8,873,407 personnel.

History

Origins

The Asgarnian Marines were founded in 1797 by the then Emperor of Asgarnieu to protect Asgarnian Naval Force ships from being boarded by pirates. The marines went on every ship, guarding the lives of the naval sailors.

Intermediate Phase

With the entire Asgarnian Military Force, the marines, too, went through an intermediate phase. In this phase, they trained, honing their skills. New techniques were developed, and new equipment was tested. This led to a highly readied force, capable of nearly any task.

20th and 21st Century

In the 20th Century AD, the Asgarnian Marines recieved their first tanks and helicopters. The marines put these potent new tools to use and utilized them to their fullest extent. Now, a marine group of some size can be found on any combat-force Asgarnian Naval ship. They operate attack helicopters and fighter jets, keeping the skies above the naval vessels safe. Being a marine is a prestigious role, filled with responsibility.

Relationship with Other Services

The Asgarnian Marines work closely with the Asgarnian Naval Force and the Asgarnian Coastal Defense Force. There is also considerable inter-agency cooperation with the Asgarnian Army.

Special Warfare

While marines are technically a special forces element, the Asgarnian Marines operate two Special Warfare Elements.

Training

While training is nearly identical to that of the Asgarnian Army, the Asgarnian Marines go through intensive marksmanship and martial arts training.
