After the Alexandria Porcupines' absolute and complete dominance for pretty much the entirety of the 2078 season, fans were hoping that other clubs would be able to provide a significant challenge for them this time around. Of course, Rolestu and Floral were among the contenders, as they had been for most of the decade.

Replacing the three relegated teams were High Mountain, Jamaica, and finally Yuba United, who had finally managed to promote back into the Premier League after a few years' sojourn in the BFL First Division.

Spring semester

Four different clubs held the top slot in the spring semester. After the first week, Esto took that honor and held it for a while, building up a four-point lead by matchday 7. Unfortunately for them, they then entered a slump, earning just four points from the next five matches to fall back to fifth place, during which time San Diego reigned in the lead. All that time, though, Floral had been slowly working their way up through the top four, finally taking the lead in week 14. By that time, though, defending champions Alexandria were gaining steam, and they finally returned to first place just before semester's end. Thus, the spring semester was basically divided into four parts, each with its own character.

Fall semester

A glance at the table below would seem to give the indication that the 2079 fall semester was much like the 2078 fall semester, with Alexandria being absolutely unstoppable in the lead and winning the league with over a month to go. In actuality, nothing could be further from the truth. While it is true that Alexandria never lost the lead, this time around that lead never became greater than four points, and for significant periods of time they were holding off San Diego and Floral entirely by goal difference. In fact, with just one match to go, they still had not secured the title, leading Floral by a single point. Alexandria played the first match of the final week and found themselves in trouble after managing only a draw with Jamaica, meaning Floral would finally capture the title if they defeated Griffin. But alas, Floral supporters will wait in agony for at least one more year, as they lost that match one-nil.

Foreign players

Bettia

  • John Connick seemed to have much more confidence this year, having been transferred to Rolestu FC; however, it cannot be denied that Rolestu suffered a fifth-place finish, their worst since 2066. Some say that Connick's age is becoming a factor – being in his mid-thirties now, he has shown some signs of slowing down a little. RFC management still think they made the right choice, though.

Brazillico

  • New to the Bedistani leagues this year is Rogelio Hockensmith. If that name sounds familiar to you, you're right: he's the grandson of former Bedistan international Tyrone Hockensmith, who retired from football while playing in Brazillico and chose to remain there. Rogelio is a highly versatile defender now playing for Jervis FC. While he is versatile, he doesn't particularly excel anywhere, but his signing did help stop some of the leaks in Jervis' back line and lead them to a top-half finish.

Chicanada

Druida

  • Trevor Lee's performance this season was nothing short of spectacular, as South Coast United conceded a whopping 26 percent fewer goals than last season, propelling them to a fourth-place finish and a possible place among Bedistan's elite.

Hockey Canada

  • Dionte City didn't do nearly as well this season as last, and many fans believe this is due to Dionte's newfound semi-Karelan style. Rahul Kulkarni comes from Hockey Canada, a land that has recently become almost as well-known for this super-defensive tactic as Rejistania itself, and though he plays a midfield position, he seemed to be in no particular hurry to send balls forward, instead taking a highly defensive posture, which often stifled Dionte's offense and kept them from winning many matches they likely should have.

Spruitland

  • Fritz Wigmeister's performance degraded just slightly from last season, but just barely enough to be noticeable. Bucks Lake Athletic's fall to sixteenth place in the final standings is mostly attributed to other factors.

Starblaydia

  • Alex Vidal continues to be solid on defense for Sokojiwa City, which continues its ride upward through the ranks of the BPL.
  • Floral FC apparently made a good choice when they promoted Georges Blanc from their under-19 side, as they had their best shot at the league title yet with Blanc controlling the midfield.

Turori

  • Raso Morre spent much of the season helping San Diego break into the elite with a highly impressive third-place finish thanks to his controlling midfield play.
  • Maratima Tareak was an integral part of the fifth-best defense in the league at South Coast, with the club conceding just over one goal per match on average and finishing just five points behind champions Alexandria.
  • Martiia Vluka had a fairly quiet season at Jervis FC, but a successful one nevertheless, as one of the most versatile of the club's midfielders.
