September 12, 1959 was a day that is now commonly referred to as "Krata Day." The name refers to the capturing of the Tropican's government control centre, called "Kratam", by the Liberatum guerilla forces. The leaders of the five cells that took Kratam (Armando Bustos, Edward Pinsley, Michael Nikel, Amanda Whitfield and Joseph Storm) are today regarded as national heroes, and they are buried in massive mausoleums surrounding the new house of parliament in Catalatina.
Since Krata Day and the seizure of state in 1959, the now renamed People's Republic of Catalatina has cut off all trade relations with capitalist nations and instead operates in the Alliance of Socialist States, a large trade and political alliance between several left-wing nations in the same area.
