The United Spacefaring States of Delta Malaysia (ICese Status Unitas Spatias das Delta Malaysia, French: États Unis Spatiales de Delta Malaisie), is a large nation located in the United Nations region. The nation of over 1.6 billion residents occupies a large, pointed, mountainous peninsula similar in shape to a shield. Delta Malaysia is broken up into four states; the state of FE to the northeast, the state of RE to the northwest, the state of CE to the southeast, and the state of BE to the southwest. A technologically advanced and forward-thinking nation, Delta Malaysia is renowned throughout the region for its liberal scientific policy, advanced space exploration program, and strong education system.

The capital of Delta Malaysia is the city of Nietzsche, located in the coastal state of CE. The city is an industrial and commercial metropolis, where almost 700 million live. Throughout the city, as well as throughout the entire nation, there are abundant natural resources. Several universities, including the international campus of Universitus, along with a strong school system, provide education for all of Delta Malaysia's citizens.

The name of the nation is derived from the Greek letter Delta, a mathematical symbol for change. This was chosen to emphasize Delta Malaysia's progressive, modern nature and its independence from the land of Arde Malaysia.

History

Origins

The nation of Delta Malaysia has its roots in the Arde Malaysian state of South Astrania. Formed in 2077 as a Special Administrative State (SAS), South Astrania was gifted with more independence and freedom in its governance. While the rest of Arde Malaysia suffered under a harsh, totalitarian, isolationist regime, South Astrania, with its more open economic policy and freedom-oriented government, prospered. This caused great strife and high tensions between South Astrania and the bordering states of Arde Malaysia, and rioting frequently occurred, especially along the border. There is some evidence to indicate that these riots were deliberately incited by the Arde Malaysian government in an attempt to weaken South Astrania and disrupt its economy. Word of such inflammatory actions of the Arde Malaysian government created a significant drive for South Astrania to declare its independence and secede from Arde Malaysia. This led to the Delta Malaysian War for Independence.

The Delta Malaysian War

The Delta Malaysian War began on October 16, 2089, when South Astranian bombers under the direction of Prime Minister Langley launched an enormous airstrike against the Arde Malaysian capital of Jaseggaville. Thousands of pounds of explosives were dropped on the city. The air raid virtually leveled the city and crippled the Arde Malaysian Air Force (AMAF); however the president of Arde Malaysia, as well as his advisors, survived. Arde Malaysia promptly declared war on South Astrania.

The first act of Arde Malaysia in the war took place from October 16 to 27, 2089. It was a large artillery barrage against the cities near the border. The Arde Malaysian forces were significantly better equipped than the South Astranian forces, and scores of South Astranian soldiers were massacred along the border by the attack. However, the South Astranian general Sebastian Acronia refused to retreat. Instead, he directed his remaining troops to attack the invading forces, running head-long into the artillery fire. Through sheer dedication, General Acronia and his men halted the barrage, and held the invaders long enough for strike aircraft to arrive and decimate the Arde Malaysian artillery. General Acronia, along with his troops, were given the title "Hero of Delta Malaysia", either in person or (for those who perished in the battle) posthumously.

The Battle of the Border was a tremendous defeat for Arde Malaysia. With their air force and army crippled by the South Astranian attacks, Arde Malaysia had just one asset left-its navy. Arde Malaysia's powerful navy began a full-fledged assault on coastal cities of South Astrania on November 22, murdering many and heavily damaging several industrial centers. Arde Malaysian carrier-borne aircraft launched airstrikes against South Astrania, especially the capital city, Nietzsche. To stop the assault, South Astranian ships and aircraft were sent out to eliminate the Arde Malaysian fleet. Wherever they met the Arde Malaysian fleet, the South Astranian Navy (SAN) met heavy resistance. SAN vessels and aircraft battled with their counterparts from the Arde Malaysian Navy for months, and both sides suffered extreme losses. Eventually, the Arde Malaysian naval commander decided his losses were too great, and retreated on February 1, 2090. However, during the Arde Malaysian retreat, the damaged but still forceful SAN launched a surprise attack on the retreating forces, under orders to "take no prisoners". The Arde Malaysian navy, weakened by the months of battle and caught completely off-guard, did not stand a chance against the beaten but heavily motivated South Astranian Navy. The remaining vessels of the Arde Malaysian fleet were either disabled or destroyed.

By March of 2090, the Arde Malaysian government, faced with tremendous losses and growing public discontent for the war, had grown weary of fighting. The Arde Malaysian infrastructure had been completely ruined, and the once-powerful nation was reduced to a shell of its former self. On March 29, 2090, Arde Malaysia surrendered and agreed to grant South Astrania its independence. As part of the agreement, Arde Malaysia was prohibited from building up its military, and agreed to submit to Delta Malaysian inspections. Arde Malaysia never recovered from its losses, and in 2092 its dictatorship was overthrown. The people of Arde Malaysia voted later that year to join the newly formed nation of Delta Malaysia.
