History of the Einmyrian Passport

Since the beginning of Einmyrian history, Einmyrian travelers had to carry papers in order to identify themselves. Many of them carried a description of the traveler and any identifying marks, and on whose behalf they travelled upon (in those days, only individuals of the House of Einmyria could grant passage, and it necessitated a voluntary indebtiture on the part of the traveler; tales, or a particular foreign good, or service upon return would often be the price). Official papers would be sealed in wax with the official House Seal, and it was only until the advent of the 20th century that Einmyrian papers were standardized under a national style, and under the purview of the Ministry of Interior.

Since the implementation of the UN Resolution 226 (otherwise known as the Passport Standardization Act) in Oct. 2007, the Kingdom of Einmyria has issued a standardized Einmyrian Passport. Since this resolution has also mandated "the publication of all Passport designs (including information about counterfeit protections), to be made available to all relevant officials, including but not limited to: immigration officials, customs and excise officers, security personnel, and constables of the law," the Department of Immigration at the Ministry of Interior Affairs has decided to release that data here in order to comply with such regulations.

Einmyrians may apply and receive the standardized Einmyrian passport within 3 working days at nation-wide issuing offices, usually under the local branch of the Department of Immigration. For Einmyrians abroad, temporary passports may be issued within 3 hours should they be lost (once the Einmyrian proves his/her identity at the embassy/consulate), and new Einmyrian passports within 5-7 working days.

Since the implementation of this resolution, there is some discussion in the Hallowed Halls of the FEA Parliament whether passports are necessary within member nations of the Federalist Europe Alliance. There has been no official regulations thus far, but in order to encourage trade and tourism, Einmyria has encouraged the alternative use of national IDs instead of passports, and the use of an inter-regional crime list that would help decrease the amount of criminals at loose, similar to that of the Schengen Agreement.

Anti-Counterfeit Measures

Second and third pages of the standardized Einmyrian passport.

The Kingdom of Einmyria has the following anti-counterfeit measures to ensure that the counterfeit makers are unable to copy Einmyria's design:

  • Cover Page
    • There is only one press that can bevel and emboss the main symbol of Einmyria's cover page with such fine detail. It was made especially by Gothman & Bros. for the Kingdom, and the contours, when seen with a 3D computer, cannot be duplicated by any other press.
    • The font of the words "Kingdom of Einmyria" was also specifically made by Gothman & Bros. for the use of the passport, and no other font exists like it.
    • The color of the cloth utilized for the cover is a special secret dye that only 3 people know of. It is a highly guarded secret.
    • When a lemon applique is applied, and held near to a source of light, it will reveal the words, "This is a real passport of the Kingdom of Einmyria" under the words "Passport."
    • Einmyrian scientists have made the passport water-proof and fire-proof, so if an immigration officer needs to check the realness of the passport, setting it on fire or dropping it under water should suffice.
  • Pages 2-3
    • There are various hidden watermarks, which are specific to the official Einmyrian passport.
    • There is a microchip under Page 2 that UN member nations that utilize an e-passport may use to hasten the process of processing the individual through immigration and other checkpoints.
  • Visa Pages
    • Depending on whether the Einmyrian citizen gets a 20, 40, or 60-page passport, the background to the visa pages will change.
      • For the 20 page version, there are depictions of the Legend of Araso, Einmyria's favorite tale by R. A. Young (aka Bernhard Bollpoll).
      • For the 40 page version, there are depictions of 38 Einmyrian heroes in history performing their well-known heroic acts.
      • For the 60 page version, there are depictions of Einmyria's national vision, including the environment, the vision of space travel, and the proliferation of wisdom among Einmyrians.

Effectiveness of Anti-Counterfeit Measures

It is unknown whether all the steps that the Kingdom has taken to combat counterfeit Einmyrian passports has been effective. As Roselle Fairbanks, Einmyria's Ambassador to the UN has commented during the resolution voting process previously, the very nature of Einmyria's high corruption suggests that high-quality fake Einmyrian passports could very well be in the making by pressing on the various contributors of the passport to reveal their secrets.
