NESA-SS51.jpg A night launch of the NESA-SS-51 Space Shuttle Hope.

Based on Dawn Island, the Elstree National Space Administration or the ENSA has three launch towers that are set five miles apart. A 25 mile runway has been set up to allow the shuttles to return safely, with two squardons of fighters stationed at NESA, one F-22 Raptor squadron, Black Knight Squadron, and one F-18 Hornet squadron, Eagle Squadron.

With the ability to launch either in daylight or at night, it is a spectical to see from the main island of Elstree. The NESA is able to have four shuttles ready to launch. The shuttles are stored in underground hangars, that help protect them from hurricanes and any attacks that do happen. When a shuttle is ready for launch, it is positioned in one of the launch tubes, and raised into the launch position.

Elstree has one primary shuttle, the NESA-SS-51 that carries cargo and compnants to the Elstree International Space Station, called Friendship Station, that is currently being built. The building of the Space Station is open to all countries that are within the United Nations and those who are not. Currently there are a total of 10 people from 7 countries living aboard Friendship Station conducting a number of experiments on the long term effects of living in Space. And these 10 are rotated every three to four months with those from other nations.

About five times a year, there are launches of new componants to the Elstree International Space Station or EISS, with help from NASA, Japan and the Soviet Union's Space programs. The hope is to set up a lunar colony with the mission to reach Mars and the planets past the asteroid belt by 2018.

A second shuttle, the NESA-SS-71 or X-71 as it is commly called, is currently scheduled to be finished in mid 2008 to early 2009 and will replace the NESA-SS-51. The X-71 will allow for the traveling to the Moon, and possibly beyond. It will feature a number of new technologies that are to be field tested in the last quarter of 2007.

If the flight and launch test are successful, with the transportation of a replacement crew to the EISS, and a return to Earth and Dawn Island, then the X-7 will enter service in 2009 and will be used primarly from that point on. The SS-51 will fly alongside the X-71 and will be used to retreive the crew of the X-71 if any problems develop or the orbiter is unable ot return to Earth. If the X-71 cannot return to Earth, it will remained docked to the EISS, ands will be used as the primary vehicle to transport people to the moon. The SS-51 is scheduled to be retired by 2013.
