Formossa is a nation which resides in the Atlantic, even though it does have good relations with a number of European nations, it is led by an obscure line of the Habsburg Family, which rule it through an Absolute Monarchy, which is pro free market but limits the civil rights of the population.

History

In 1870, the nation of Formossa split off from the Austro-Hungarian Empire, initially the land that rose up was bigger, however only the land between the current borders was succesfully defended. After 14 years of unsuccesfull monarchs, who were continiously couped, an member of the Habsburg Family was chosen to lead the family which he did with success, protecting the neutrality of Formossa.

Formossa wouldn't expand any further, however it would in economical terms, the first years of the Habsburg reign didn't show any major signs of economic growth, however the Kings became intrested in classical-liberalism, and two families gained lots of influence in the government, which were the Thorbecke and Bastiat families, they ensured that the King left his social-conservative course and in economic terms become an Classic-Liberal, this would allow the economy to boom.

Ever since this economic boom, Formossa has been quite calm, while it's borders are open for trade they are usually closed for diplomatic relations (except for the major trade partners such as Venice) however recently the isolationism is getting a somewhat more loose intrepation, and Formossa has gained membership in the Confederacy of Atlantic Nations and the United Nations

Armed Forces of Formossa

The Armed Forces focus on the defense of Formossa and are skilled in operations in mountainious terrain, in which it is specialized. The absence of a navy (due to Formossa being land-locked) has allowed Formossa to invest in other terrains, including improving it's armed forces, air force and it's other major specialization, Special Forces.

Arms Trade mainly happens with The Arsenal of Venice which is the source of most of the military supplies which Formossa uses.

Economy of Formossa

The Economy of Formossa is an service-based economy, which focuses on banking and book publishing. Agriculture and Mining also make up big parts of the Economy. The Economy is free market, and thus has low regulation and low taxes.

The main economic policy has been devised by the Bastiat and Thorbecke Families, who have had major influence in Formossa for a long time and who have added an classic-liberal touch to the conservative regime, ensuring the economic liberalism.

Formossa has an banking secret, which has created many major laundering problems, and many foreigners come to Formossa to evade tax in their own country, Formossa has refused to sign agreements when it comes to this, which is understandable since it gives a major impulse to the economy. Inside Formossa there is a flat tax of 14% for every citizen.

Political Situation in Formossa

There are no elections, and there are no official parliamentary bodies, the King does have advisory bodies, which are usually made up of representatives from the economy, from the aristocracy and from the university. The highest of these advisory bodies is the Great Council.

The most recent King, Ferdinand Wilhem has been given more authority to different parts of the governments, and has decentralized power, while he has kept the absolute power he has ensured that he doesn't have to intervene often.

There are no parties, however there are non-governmental organisations which are a mix of think-tanks, charities, parties and lobby groups, usually important civil servants are member of these non-governmental organisations, the biggest of these organisations are the Bastiat Institute and the Monarchist Order.

Justice in Formossa

Justice in Formossa is head by the Minister of Justice, who may propose new laws to the King and may appoint new Supreme Judges (with the approval of the King.) The Supreme Court is the highest court inside Formossa, and this Court is highly conservative and pro-monarchy, not only does it decide on important cases, it als appoints new judges in the normal Courts, which you can find back in every municipality.

There are widespread claims of corruption in the police forces, however these have never been proven in crimes with victims, it is known that police has a tendency to accept bribes when it comes to victimless crimes and that they regulary give higher importance to cases with victims, to such an extent that they allow drugs dealers to walk free if they can capture an rapist or an murderer.

Diplomatic Relations of Formossa

The Neutrality of Formossa has prevented any major relations from getting into existence, Formossa has good relations with the Venetian Republic, and sits in major bodies which either don't take a strong position in diplomatic affairs (such as the United Nations) or respect the Formossan Soevereignity (such as the Atlantic Confederacy of Atlantic Nations
