History

The history of Guilford Parish, named after Anthony Guilford, the first homesteader in the area, is a short one. It was founded, as one of the first parishes in Thorlund, in 1990. Because the land was mountainous and located at a high altitude, it was originally home to only a few homesteaders. However, this very isolation made it a popular site for institutions of tertiary education, which originally considered the atmosphere to be free of distractions. While this worked for a few years, businesses catering to university students followed. Soon other businesses catering to the new populace moved in after them. Very soon, a thriving parish centered on a sizable city had grown up around the originally isolated academic setting.

The borders of Guilford Parish have never changed in its short history. No major military actions have occurred here nor has there been substantinal civil unrest.

Law and government

Guilford Parish is governed by an elected Parish Council consisting of seven members and contains its own Parish Court. The Parish Council has relatively little power with most local government powers in the hands of the Municipalities and most central power belonging to the nation of the the Principality.

Geography

Guilford Parish lies high in the Abse Mountains and most of the municipalities of the parish are just loosely associated homesteads grouped together for legal purposes. Outside Agwenberg, the landscape is generally neither arable nor settled. No notable bodies of water run through the parish, although one or two small creeks exist.

Municipalities

The Parish is divided into ten municipalities: Agwenberg, BØ sendorfer, Cananis, Dahrendorf, Eckert, Fallmerayer, Gò ttler, HØ gel, Idesheim, and Jaeke.
