History

The Confederacy of Liberal Men and Women is the current embodiment of what used to be the only government in Eternia. Even after all of the break away countries formed, The Confederacy is still the largest.

Economy

The Confederacy had the second strongest economy in Eternia, and is not ranked 3rd after a major growth by Liilte China. There is a 9% income tax, with the money taken being invested in everything from education to law and order to corporate bailouts. There is a strong corporate presence in the Confederacy, and capitalism is allowed to thrive.

Social Welfare

The social equality and welfare budgets, 12% total or ~8 billion credit chits, is invested not as handouts, but instead into public works programs to help the unemployed. The projects include urban revitalization and road building.

Education

The Confederacy has long been a supporter of public education, wand has always made it the top funding target. It's funding is ~13.4 billion credit chits. Education is compulsory through all of high school, and there is completely free community college for those who desire it; however, it is only free for the first degree.

Unified Defense Front of the Confederacy of Liberal Men and Women (UDFCLMW)

Crime is a serious problem despite the ~5.3 billion chit budget for the para-military police force. This is due primarily to the dual role the organization fills, both that of a police force and that of a defensive military.

The Confederacy has recently requested anyone of knowledge in the fields rocketry or ship building to immigrate to the Confederacy and join the military to help in the development of a navy and space program, and most likely a ballistic missile program as well. In addition, they are asking for the assistance of experienced sailors to man the ships the plan to build and purchase due to their fear of the ocean.

UDFCLMW Naval Division

Space Program

On August 26, Year 10, the Confederacy began a space program in conjunction with a number of corporations. So far, they have begin to launch rockets into the upper atmosphere.

On May 9, Year 12, not even 2 years since the beginning of the program, the Confederacy successfully orbited the first artificial satellite in Eternian history that remained in orbit for an appreciable time. It stayed in a more or less stable orbit for over a month before it began to distabilize, finally burning up a month after that.

Politics

There are no parties in the Confederacy's political system. Instead those who wish to vote must actually listen to the opinions.

The Election of EY 4 (4/8/07)

President Marvin Jefferson ran against two other candidates, Senator Williams and the retired police chief Donaldson. The vote break down was as follows(Jefferson/Williams/Donaldson):

  • Keldor: 15/79/4; 1 vote to Williamson
  • Cringer: 56/21/22; 1 vote to Jefferson
  • She-Ra: 1/77/21; 1 vote to Williamson
  • Randor: 13/68/17; 1 vote to Williamson
  • Grayskull: 43/5/51; 3 votes to Donaldson
  • Eternos: 47/23/29; 3 votes to Jefferson

This is the most hotly contested presidential election in recorded history. Many analysts have concluded that if only Donaldson opponents had run, then there may have been a president-elect Donaldson. The same is not true for Williamson, for it has been concluded that he would not have won Grayskull.

The Election of EY 8 (4/12/07)

President Marvin Jefferson, the incumbent, ran against only one other candidates, former UDFCLMW minister, General Howard. The vote break down was as follows(Jefferson/Howard):

  • Keldor: 38/59. 2 electoral votes for Howard.
  • Cringer: 51/47. 3 electoral votes for Jefferson.
  • She-Ra: 23/76. 2 electoral votes for Howard.
  • Randor: 34/63. 2 electoral votes for Howard.
  • Grayskull: 31/67. 4 electoral votes for Howard.
  • Eternos: 62/35. 5 electoral votes for Jefferson.

This election threw the analysts for a loop. It was expected for Jefferson to win handily; however, the analysts underestimated the effect of the War of Liilte Aggression. It was expected that the president who was capable of signing the treaty to end the war would win, but the border states voted for the military candidate in the hope of the increased defense his policies would provide, and those border states in conjunction witht he military dependant Grayskull sealed Howard the election. Another unexpected occurrence was that Howard announced his intent to appoint Jefferson as his Minister of Education.

The Election of EY 12 (4/16/07)

The third election post-breakup was a non event since General Howard ran unopposed.

The Election of EY 16 (4/20/07)

Retired General Howard, the incumbent, ran against only one other candidates, Senator Martindale. The vote break down was as follows(Howard/Martindale):

  • Keldor: 64/33, 5 electoral votes votes for Howard
  • Cringer: 62/35, 5 electoral votes votes for Howard
  • She-Ra: 23/75, 5 electoral votes for Martindale
  • Randor: 69/36, 5 electoral votes votes for Howard
  • Grayskull: 73/25, 10 electoral votes for Howard
  • Eternos: 38/61, 15 electoral votes for Martindale
  • Totals:

      • ~53% of the votes

Howard was able to hold the presidency due to the concern of the border states for the possibility of an attack. This paranoia originates from the War of Liilte Aggression. This in addition to Grayskull, the military province, held for him the majority.

Embassy Row

Embassy Row is a brand new district on the outskirts of Eternos. It is not considered part of Eternos the city, but is within wlking distance of the capitol building. It, along with a few cross streets is to be the centralized location of primary embassies to the Confederacy.

There are expansion plans should it prove necessary.

Recent Decisions

The law more often comes down on the side of employers rights rather than employee rights, causing a slightly higher ~10% unemployment, yet heavily improving the economy.

Voting is defined as voluntary, under the belief that if that person doesn't want to vote, the president does not want the vote.

Lately, The Confederacy has had an epidemic of STDs, causing an increase in funding to combat it.
