The LETI Republic of Nimzonia was established on February 12, 2007 as a homeland for the Nimzonian People in Lake Erie.

History

- The current state of Nimzonia was brought about by the Nimzonian civil war (2004-2005) which escalated to nuclear conflict when Emmanuel Helstag, then President, lost his sanity and initiated a nuclear strike against Nimzonian cities to deny them to the rebels. After their homeland was ruined, most Nimzonians left this harsh northern land to search for a new homeland.
- Although the diaspora spread worldwide, the greatest concentration was in the Nimzonian colony of LETIreijk in Lake Erie, which had been virtually ceded to Nimzonia by MadderMike in the Missing Zeroes Treaty of 2004. A military junta led by Admiral Olaf Jakobsson took control of the colony, and is currently overseeing the establishment of the successor to the Nordic Republic of Nimzonia, the LETI republic of Nimzonia.
Politics
- The current military junta is led by Admiral Olaf Jakobsson. The vice presidency is held by Vice-Admiral Paulus Myhre, and the Minister for defence is General Borkman. Despite being a military dictatorship, the regime is noted as being Nimzonia's most liberal government in modern times. This may be due to the difficulty of re-establishing law and order in the aftermath of the exodus from Nimzonia. However, Jakobsson is significantly more liberal and pro-civil rights than his predecessors, so this may lead to a radical redefining of Nimzonian identity.
- Although Nimzonia has officially been a one-party state for over fifty years, there have been occasional opposition parties set up as puppets by the ruling party. At present, political parties are outlawed, although there are underground political movements at work, the largest being the Communist Alliance Against Nuclear Proliferation, with its slogan "In Soviet LETI, Nuke Launches You!"
Economy
- The competitve Nimzonian private sector is led by the Uranium Mining, Arms Manufacturing, and Automobile manufacturing industries. Leading corporations include Saatovagen, Imperial Ores, Twinsun, and Republic Armouries. Until recently, the multinational Quisling Pharmaceuticals was a leading corporation, but in 2004 was mired in a major scandal centering around illegal research and numerous other criminal activities. Quisling collapsed in 2005, and its assets were bought off by Twinsun and Imperial Ores.
- Since the founding of the new Nimzonian State, the economy has had to undergo radical changes. Fishing is still a major industry, and massive high-rise factories in Letiburg still export Nimzonian automobiles around the world. The largest automobile company is Saatovagen, with 66% market share, with the rest of the market being taken by specialist manufacturers such as Nordic Motors and Hendriks luxury vehicles.
- Finance is also a major source of income, although most of it is unofficial, as Nimzonian accountants are renowned for their ability to cook the books. The insurance sector virtually disappeared after the civil war, but is slowly being re-established, with the average contract specifically excluding claims due to Nuclear War damage.
Demographics
- The population is predominantly of norse extraction, and is fairly homogenous. Because of the lack of living space for ethnic Nimzonians, minorities such as Platanese are being rounded up and deported.
- The most widely spoken language is Nimzonian, although most Nimzonians are bilingual and also speak english. Modern Nimzonian is differentiated from Old High Nimzonian, by influences from Swedish, Finnish, Dutch and German.
- The predominant religion until the 1940s was Lutheran, with traditional pagan religions also widely practised. Following the rise to power of the Anchor party, religion was for the most part discouraged, with the education system becoming increasingly secular. Paulus Jaarinen restored some freedom of religion, and traditional pagan religions have recently seen a surge in popularity.

Culture
- Modern Nimzonian culture reflects the nordic influences of its past, and not just as a gimmick to attract tourist dollars. Whaling is still a popular activity, and the Nimzonian navy regularly clashes with animal rights protesters, such as the Blue Peace activist group.
- The national sport is ice hockey, although skiing and soccer are also popular. Chess is also a popular pastime, as it does not involve going outdoors in the snow. Since the migration of most of Nimzonia's population to Lake Erie, this may change as people begin to enjoy more outdoor pursuits.
Nimzonian Time
- For plot-related reasons, and its involvement in LETI (which is itself a dimensional paradox), Nimzonia operates on a fluid time principle with the result that there is not always consistency between lengths of time experienced by one character and another. This is known in the scientific community as 'Peanuts Time', which explains how Linus Van Pelt was able to go from new-born to almost the same age as Charlie Brown without Charlie Brown aging at all.
