ohlark first came to prominence as an incisive political satirist. It wasn't until later in his life that his significant diplomatic role become recognised by the general public.
Beginnings
Some have claimed that being born in the remote village of Balley Hooley in the sparsely populated southern reaches of the Lower Snowy region gave ohlark his ability to stand outside politics and view it in an entirely fresh and comical way. He himself questions this and has stated that his background was a major hurdle in his development. Whichever is the case, ohlark had an undistinguished school record before studying Arts at the Murrindal University where his University Revue performances were more notable than his academic achievements.
Early Career
After graduation from Murrindal University ohlark moved to the nation's capital, First Creek Falls, where he worked by day as a minor public servant in the foreign affairs office while toiling by night as a comedian.
For over ten years neither activity produced a breakthrough until, on his 32nd birthday (as legend has it), he received an offer from the Errinundrian Broadcasting Corporation to run a nightly satirical segment on national radio and another offer from the then Protector of Foreign Affairs and Other Activities, iveitu, to become his personal assistant.
Satire
His radio program, The ohlark Interviews, became an instant success, despite the simple format. He would take on the persona of a prominent figure, usually political, and be interviewed by his collaborator, errbrie, to utterly ridiculous effect. Despite avoiding direct voice impersonation ohlark's victims would be instantly recognisable. His technique would be either to take absurd utterances from his targets and develop them as if they were rational or, conversely, take seemingly straightforward comments and extrapolate from them in unexpected ways.
Diplomacy
iveitu is on record as saying that ohlark's unerring scalpel for penetrating to the heart of absurdity also made him an ideal diplomat. Further, the Protector had, in previous appointments, shown a penchant for appointing diplomats, such as keok, known for speaking their minds. Although this practice has been initially somewhat disconcerting for other nations, they have usually come to appreciate and trust the transparency of the Errinunderian way of diplomacy.
Under the patronage of iveitu he studied part-time at the First Creek Falls Lyceum where he gained the necessary qualifications to become a diplomat. After working in the mission in Ariddia, where he proved his effectiveness in many supporting positions to the ambassador, ohlark was finally appointed as ambassador to Zwangzug.
Other Achievements
ohlark has written several screenplays and twice directed feature films. All were moderately successful. He occasionally takes on acting roles in films, usually preferring to play villains.
