Pacificalian is a moderately large nation on the western coast of North America and holds many territories throughout the Pacific, most notably Hawaii and the Philippines. The nation contains a large number of Chinese and Japanese immigrants. It has rarely in its nearly 200-year history provoked a war, and is generally regarded as peaceful.

History

Main article: History of Pacificalian
The history of Pacificalian is a relatively brief one. Soon after Mexican independence in 1821, large numbers of American settlers began moving into the northwestern territories. These were dissatisfied with the government, and a revolution began in 1824. The rebels gained their independence in 1826 and became the Confederacy of Pacificalian. The territory encompassed by the nation stretched from just north of the California peninsula to the Oregon Country in the north and the USA in the east. The Texans did not like the anti-slavery policies of the government in San Francisco, and withdrew in 1829. The Constitution allowed secession, and there was nothing done about the matter. This did, however, demonstrate the need for a more centralized nation, and a new Constitution was drawn up the next year, the same year Texas was admitted to the United States. In the 1850s, during the Oregon dispute between the USA and Great Britain, Pacificalian attempted to peacefully show its interest in the area. When it seemed as though only war could give the area to either one, Pacificalian was proposed as a compromise, and the state of Oregon was incorporated in 1859. Following the French withdrawal from Mexico, Pacificalian took advantage of the weakness of its southern neighbor and invaded. It captured the states of Baja California and Sonora, incoporating the latter and adding the former to California. In July, 1868 the Treaty of Mexico City gave these officially to Pacificalian. Hawaii was conquered in 1881, and the Philippines were taken from the Spanish in the Pacific War in 1884. The Confederacy joined World War I in 1918, and received the Caroline islands from the Germans. In World War II, Pacificalian joined the Allies. During the Cold War Pacificalian was part of the Western bloc.

Race/Ethnicity

The racial makeup of Pacificalian is largely caucasian, although Orientals (including the Japanese and Chinese) makeup a significant portion of the population. Mexicans also account for a small part of the population.

Pacificalian is a republic, like its larger neighbor the United States. It has three houses in its Congress, the Senate, the People's House and the Chamber of Representatives. There are three representatives from each state in the Senate, and the Chamber of Representatives is based on land size. The People's House is the only one where the representatives are elected by the people directly, rather than the legislatures of the states, and the number is based on population.

Political Divisions

The Confederacy is divided into seven states and one territory.
