Description
Punjabea is a nation that has gone through many changes in its existance. It is presently a federation. Punjabea is known for its humourous approach to government, its cynicism, its corruption and its hatred of hippies. Despite the name, the country has nothing to do with the Punjab region of India. The name was originally invented as a joke, but was then implemented as the country's name to everyone's surprise.
History
Foundation
In the late 20th Century in a region known as the Domain of UL, there was a nation known as Grand Malta. A civil war erupted over the interpretation of a historical event and two nations were formed: The United Socialist States of Azmost and The Dictatorship of Punjabea.
The Dictatorship of Punjabea
The nation's founding leader was known as El Presidente. A shadowy, powerful figure, he ruled with an iron fist, but was beloved by all his people. He built Punjabea up from the ruins of grand Malta. He also diffused the near-war with Azmost after the nations' creation, by executing his foreign minister Richard M. Nixon, whom had tried to invade Azmost. Following his death, the nation entered a week of mourning.
The Republic of Punjabea
After El Presidente's death, the people elected Alphonso Dimatezzi as their president. Despite rumours of election fixing, he was sworn in. At first, he introduced liberal reforms, but after a short period, he became a dictator through his control of the military.
The New Dictatorship of Punjabea
Dimatezzi ruled for a long period and was not loved by the people as El Presidente had been. There was desent throughout the nation. He was ruler during the collapse of the Grand Alliance and it is said that he created the collapse through his idiotic diplomacy and his deception through the creation of New Gurthy. A civil war erupted between Dimatezzi's government and a group of royal communists led by Elpharo Gugamende. The war ended in victory for the royal communists and a new state was formed.
The Royal Communist Paradiso of Punjabea
Elpharo Gugamende resigned Punjabea from the position of Delegate after the scandal and established a communist monarchy with himself as Secretary of Punjabea. He wished to rebuild Punjabea after the idiocracy of Dimatezzi. After a period of reform and rebuilding, he decided to make Punjabea a federal democracy. An election was held and he was swept back into office.
The Galactic Federation of Punjabea
This is the state that exists today. It continues to expand into outer space and has established colonies on the Moon and Mars. It has also created the first space elevator and had created a galactic alliance with Saorstat before Saorstat's demise. In April 2006, President Elpharo Gugamende initiated Emergency Domain Collapse Contingency Plan Omega ZZ9 and Punjabea lifted off and settled in the Axis of Absurdity. Punjabea left because they felt that the Domain had collapsed and was now without activity. Punjabea has since rose to the rank of "Vassal" in the Axis of Absurdity and has adapted well to life there. In a recent poll, Punjabean citizens reported a 28% increase in happiness since moving to the Axis.
Government
Punjabea presently has a federal government. Each state has its own powers concerning education and welfare, while the federal government manages international affairs. The space colonies are separate states with the same powers as the Earth based states. The Punjabean government is riddled with red tape, but much has been reduced since the Federation was established. For example, the Department of Red Tape is no longer necessary in the running of the Government.
Geography
Punjabea is an island state, off the coast of the Axis of Absurdity's main continent. Its highest mountain is Mt. Tuprende (5,648m). Its main river is the Phedaro river. This is a major water source and shipping channel that runs through Two Trees. Punjabea has also established colonies on the Moon and Mars. The Punjabean Lunar Colony (PLC) has a population of 75,000 and is involved in extensive space research. The Punjabean Martian Colony (PMC) has a population of 150,000 people and is involved in agricultural and space craft research.
Economy
The Punjabean economy is quite strong and is led by a large Information Technology industry, followed by Book publishing and beef-based Agriculture. Punjabea also has a large space mining sector which supplies the country with minerals at a very cheap cost.
Since moving to the Axis of Absurdity, a large spacecraft industry has developed, fueled mainly by the obtaining of engineers from The Deafening Metal Empire of Audio Assault.

Technology
Punjabea has developed much advanced technology and has pumped massive investment into research. Its greatest advances have been in space technology. The pride of Punjabean engineering is the Punjabean Space Elevator (PSE). This was constructed in late 2005 and was joined up with the Punjabean Space Platform, which now forms the top. This has greatly fuelled its advancements in space as access to and from space is now very safe and very cheap. Space costs were previously very prohibitive as liquid fuel rockets had to be used; using warp drives within the atmosphere of a planet has disasterous results, including atmospheric ionisation and matter deformation. The PSE is vital to the transportation of materials to and from its colonies on Mars, the Moon and its mining colonies in the Solar System Asteroid belt beyond Mars. Upon moving to the Axis of Absurdity, it has obtained much space technology. Since the donation of 50 spacecraft engineers from Galactica Industries, Punjabea has set up a new spacecraft company called the Olympus Corporation. For details, see Olympus Corp.
Society
The Punjabean people are a hard working people who will put up with a lot, and they have. Crime is virtually non-existent due to the government's excellent policies in education and police enforcement.
Allies
Since moving to the Axis of Absurdity, Punjabea has increasingly co-operated with The Deafening Metal Empire of Audio Assault, Fuzzy Earl and other space-going nations, in the defense of the solar system and the galaxy. Back in the Domain of UL, Punjabea's chief ally was the Democratic Socialist States of Azmost. Most trade was with Azmost, and both nations supported each other, both economically and in defense.
Military
Punjabea has a large military comprising an Army, a Navy, an Air Force and a Galactic Army. Its Air Force is famous for its strength and ability. There are currently 2 million people employed in the Punjabean Military. The Galactic Army has recently expanded to become the most important military division with the new technologies it has obtained and has shown its ability in the recent Mansonbot invasion, defeating Mansonbot garrisons and protecting key strategic locations. The PSE is also armed with nuclear warheads and gatling lasers to defend against invasions.
