Short Introduction

Sjwitz is a bright, young nation of hard working people. Being a relatively new nation, Sjwitz doesn't have a big history. The cultural and historical facts about this small piece of land remain somewhat hidden, mainly caused by the fact that the stubborn people of Sjwitz refuse to think about the past, most of them never think about the same thing twice, it's just on towards the future.

This weird ability causes the Sjwitz people to create great "visionary", which shows in the fact that most of them are always prepared for all kinds of possible disasters.

From being born on, people in Sjwitz are taught to study, work or train hard for what they want to do or become. The negative side of this is that there are a lot of people who are only good at one thing because they specialised in it for so long, the positive thing is: Sjwitz has a great amount of highly educated people - in one subject - , a great deal of businessmen and most of all, a huge amount of athletes, in all kinds of sports. This extreme amount of athletes is also caused by the fact that the Sjwitz are just CRAZY about sports, from cricket to tennis to curling to soccer. All sports have their league and loads of pro's in Sjwitz.

Tennis

National Championships

Held during the first two weeks of January 2005, the first national tennis championships where such a big succes, considering the quality of play AND the number of supporters, that the ministry of sport has now invested a lot more (even more) money in funding for tennis. The Sjwitz Tennis Association is, ofcourse, very pleased with this newfound wealth!

To start with, last months winners and runners-up (Men+Women) have been given a chance to participate in The Ts'khinvali Open. Held in Ts’khinvali, South Osettia and part of the NSTA Tennis Circuit. It's a new tournament but a lot of big stars will be present, hopefully Sjwitz's players can learn from them and gain some experience.

The 2005 National Championships, being the first ever national championships, were started with a huge prelimination tournament in which over 2000 players took part, but after a first selection by a tennisjury of the STA, only the best 128 were allowed to start in the actual prelimination tournament. The best 4 made it to the final tournament and faced the 4 seeded players. This procedure was used in the mens and womens tournament. (Note: the STA has announced that a lot of future tennis stars where spotted and they regret the fact that a lot of them had to drop out in the prelimination tournament. To avoid this in 2006 the main tournament will consist of at least 32 players, half of those players will be seeded using a ranking based on their scores and matches of 2005.)

Benno Fayrinen and Catherine J. Oppt are the 2005 Sjwitz Tennis Champions!

'Benno' is a 23 year old, 1m91 high with a splendid forehand and a decent backhand. Started playing tennis at his 4th.

'Catherine' is a 28 year old, 1m75 and known for her strength. Baseline player who can send the ball almost anywhere she wants. Also married to Burt, runner-up in the mens tournament.

'Burt' is 1m79 and mainly a player who is good at most aspects of the game, going to net to finish it is definitely his favorite move though. He's 27 years old.

'Zulma' is only 16 years old but oh boy has she got potential, is in control of every move and has the technique, only needs to keep her head clear at important moments. Tends to lose when she's about to win (5-4 30-0 up on her own serve in the final but her nerves got to her). Off the field she's also a star, her blue eyes, long legs and short skirts make most men go crazy. She has been offered a modelling career but refused, she only wants to play tennis.

Benno and Zulma are the future. Rumours are saying that Catherine and Burt are thinking about kids and would both like to stop playing. For now however, Benno and Burt will represent Sjwitz in the mens tournament and Catherine and Zulma in the womens tournament. Good luck to them at the Ts'khinvali Open!
