Tor_Korxum, officially the Free Republic of Siros (FRS) or Sirosya Bärreqpublik is a beautiful mountanious nation in southern Vaagsfjord. Known for it's libertarian politics, Tor Korxum has a long history of social tolerance and national survival.

Politics

Since its founding, the FRS has been a minarchist republic. A strictly delimited democratic government, as put forth in the constitution, runs the nation.

The nation is arranged, internally, as a conferation of semi-independent Lätal united under a central government ruled by the National Parliment. This elected body consists of representatives of all the Latäl and votes on matters of Defense and international relations

Suri Hhanos is the prime minister of Tor Korxum. He is the second ethnic Sirosian to serve this post, the first being Dedono Äbpfer, the nation's primary founder.

Tor Korxum has five major parties. These are Bärrcqpubljkanti ("Free-Republicans" or Liberals), the Demokrätreqpublikanex ("Democratic-Republicans" or Democrats), the Sosilosreqpublikanex ("Socialist-Republicans" or Socialists), the Anurreqpublikanex (People's-Republicans or Nationalists), and lih Timáí("Of the Center" or Moderates). The Liberals favor a sharply limited and decentralized government and favor laissez faire economics. The Democrats favor a more active and centralized government, but still often favor laissez faire or near laissez faire economic policy. The Socialists differ in degree, but all maintain the value of government welfare programs and activist government. Their members vary from moderate populists favoring modest workfare programs to Marxists favoring centralized planning. The Nationalists favor strong limits on immigration, a "tougher" foreign policy, protective tariffs, and often socially conservative programs. The Moderates have mixed beliefs, but are held together by their rejection of partisan politics. The Liberals and Democrats are the largest parties, both taking in between twenty and forty percent of the national vote in elections. The Socialists and Nationalists are the next largest, both taking in btween ten and twenty percent of the national vote. The Moderates have had varying degrees of success, garnishing as much as forty-five percent of the national vote in their best election and as little as one percent in their worst.

Languages

Sirosian is the primary-official language of the FRS. Though German, French, Italian, Czech, Gaelic, and English are accepted by different Latäl , Sirosian is the national language, the language which links FRS citizens together.

Sirosian is an artificial language, based upon Indo-European languages, created decades before the founding of the FRS as a universal/diplomatic language. [See History section]

History

Decades ago a group of people, foreseeing cultural turmoil and world war, began to reject contemporary culture and adopt a new "unblemished" one for themselves. They thus adopted Sirosian to be their primary language, as to provide a final seperation from other cultures. After the Greatest War ("Ih Krig Magum"), these 'Sirosians' were a relatively numerous and prosperous group (their population had been left effectively unscathed by the War and postceding Plague). They began the effort to organize basic governments and help survivors begin the massive rebuilding process. They organized the Hhanfeqderaxin Sirosíó (Sirosian Confederation) as a lose alliance of city-states. After years of struggle with foreign powers such as Zadania and Faybian, Dedono Äbpfer, a writer and militia general, met with eight other Sirosian leaders to discuss the possibility of a united republic. Vacláv Medved, Heinrich Steuben, Ernst Voll, Francois LaTour, Vincenzo L'Orso, Drakhna Vináí, Jareqjo Anox, and Johann Moeller met Äbpfer in Xvätxtad, his home-town. Eight months later, the officially formed the FRS.

Since its formation there have been seven Prime Ministers. Äbpfer was the first. As Prime Minister he set the tone for future leaders as being calm, deliberate, and tolerant. He was succeeded by Vacláv Medved, a Czech Jew and one of the Republic's founders, who continued his policies, and would go on to found the Liberals. Next, came the first official partisan Prime Minister, Johann Moeller, a German Catholic and another founder, elected as a Democrat. Luc DePat, a French Demarist, followed him as the next Democrat. Roberto Cerami, an Italian, succeed DePat as the first partisan Liberal in the office. Hanz Schwecker, a German-speaking Demarist came next, as the nation's only Nationalist Prime Minister. Dieter Engelsohn, a German Lutheran, succeed him as a Democrat voted in as a Anti-Nationalist ticket. The current Prime Minister is Suri Hhanos, a Liberal and the first ethnic Sirosian since Äbpfer. The Liberals currently have a slim majority in the Parliment.

Problems and Issues

Tor Korxum most serios internal problem is the Deutsche Heimat movement, which favors the creation of a German nation within Siros. The Deutsche Volkspartei (German People's Party) is the German separatist political party of Siros and the Deutche Volksmacht is its paramilitary wing. Both remain technically legal, despite their open opposition to the FRS government and their sometimes violent activities. The Deutsche Volspartei has lost most of its support in the last few decades.Prominent German speakers like author Ernst Schaffer and Sirosian Socialist Party leader Erich Schoener denouncing the German seperatists as "ruthless terrorists".

A German-Sirosian Nationalist movement has even been formed to combat the Deutsch Heimat movement. The Deutsche-Sirosische Einheit Partei-Parti Waorae Dyc-Sireh or German-Sirosian Unity Party has risen to challenge the Deutsche Volkpartei in the northern, heavely German Latäl where the D.V. have historically had the most success.
