Pushistymistan, officially the People's Republic of Pushistymistan, (Russian: Пушистымистан, Pushistymistán,, IPA: [pushˈistˈɨˈmiˈstan]), is a very large country that stretches across the colder northlands of eastern Asia, inhabited chiefly by anthropomorphs. It borders Russia and China, and possesses a coastline of 4,830 km (3,000 mi). Pushistymistan was a Soviet republic, and now is a member of the Commonwealth of Independent States.

Ancient
The area occupied by modern Pushistymistan has been inhabited by tribes of non-humans since ancient times, beginning as a political establishment with the formation of species- and area-specific tribes around 400 BCE. The first interaction of these tribes is unknown, but is believed to have been during the early first century CE. A handful of foreign traders roamed the land during this time, bartering with the inhabitants that most of their comrades considered dæmons, for reasons of their more heavily-animalistic appearance.
These tribes eventually merged into several kingdoms, which contested the region amongst themselves until 1020, when most of Pushistymistan was taken over by Ghengis Khan's Mongols. The remaining three kingdoms in the far north bonded together to form the Triparte Alliance to defend themselves from these invaders. The Alliance was later merged into the nation of Pushistymistan, using the name Russian travelers gave to the area. It maintained a defencive position from then until 1438 when Ivan III conquered it.

Etymology
The name of Pushistymistan derives from the term the native peoples were unilaterally given by the Rus' wanderers that found their way into the country. The word pushistymi (Russian: пушистыми, IPA: [pushˈistˈɨˈmi]) translates to “fluffy,” (also “furry” and “downy”) widely understood as having been given as a result of early encounters with anthropomorphic mammals in the area.
