The Cherry Cup tournament is one of the longest-running sports competitions in the world of NationStates. Founded by Kalaallit Nunaat, the tournament is now in its eleventh incarnation. One of the beauties of the Cherry Cup is that its format changes from one incarnation to the next.

To quote Iansisle: "this isn't the World Cup of (Ice) Hockey, it's the Cherry Cup"

Liverpool England Bid

  • Teams/Format
    • 28 or 32 teams
    • 28 teams:
      • 4 groups of 7, playing each other once (in Liverpool England). Top two advance.
    • 32 teams:
      • 4 groups of 8, playing each other once (in Liverpool England). Top two advance.
      • Quarterfinals:

They are best-of-3 (first to 2), Home team for first leg listed first. The second leg is played in the team listed second, and if a third game is needed it will be played in Liverpool England.

      • Semifinals:

They are best-of-5 (first to 3), Home team for frist and third legs are listed first. The second leg is played in the team listed second as is the fourth game if needed. Should a fifth game decider be required, it will be played in Liverpool England.

      • Finals:

They are best-of-5 (first to 3), The first leg is played in the team listed first. The second leg is played in the team listed second. The third game will be played in Liverpool England, as will the possible 4th and 5th games.

    • Formula/RP bonus/Scorination

I'll be using a calculator (with a random function) to scorinate results. Formula used: Rank^-1 X 8RAND where Random = integer from 1 through 6 Should the number obtained be in decimals, it will be rounded off (up or down) to the next whole number. Should it be a double-digit number, the two digits will be added up and the result obtained taken to be the score. If the result is still a two-digit number, the process will be repeated until a single digit is obtained.

There shall be no RP bonus, however weak RPs (considered by the general sports RP community to be weak) will be penalised.

Generally you will find the weather in Liverpool England to be varied depending on where you are staying, the closer to the deserts you are the hotter and drier you will find the weather, however the majority of the nation is rather cool with the occasional shower. There have been a few floods and tsunami problems in the past nearer to the cost, but generally you will find these are rare occurrences which shouldn’t interfere with games.

Liverpool England has banned weapons and legalised drugs, nudity and homosexuality. Chicanada Bid

Teams selected by blind draw based on rank after Cherry Cup X. The top 7 teams and Chicanada (as host) would be the first teams selected and so on (think real life World Cup Soccer).

Teams play their three other group members twice. Top two advance to knockout round (in case of ties, it's broken by wins, goal differential, record against each other, goals scored, goals against, rank).

      • Knockout Rounds:

As bidded on previously, Chicanada will have a staggered Knockout round to protect the best performing teams. The 4 teams from each region would be ranked 1-4 based on points, wins, goal difference, goals scored, goals allowed and rank overall.

In addition...since we're not part of the UN, prostitution and other fun vices (such as beer, beer, gambing, beer, and other things) (except for gambling on games) is legalized in specific sections of all cities used for all tournament matches.

All cities offer the finest in Hotel accomidations, transportation (Chicanada is a green state and uses lots of subways/trains/buses in additions to cars), sporting events in the offtime (as CFF play continues) and no tax collectors (that's right, all products purchased in Chicanada are duty and tax free as we have a 20% tax attached to all products anyways)

    • 2 Conferences – The Howdy Doody Conference, and The Blood and Guts Conference
    • Each Conference divided two groups in each
    • Teams selected for groups by blind random draw number of teams in each group will, of course, depend on how many sign up for CC XI
  • Group Play:
    • Each team plays every other team in it’s group twice
    • Top 4 in each group advance (16 teams advance, 8 in each Conference)
  • Conference Play:
    • Each team of the 8 that advance plays each other team once
    • Top 2 advance to Conference Finals (one game)
    • Winner is Conference Champ, Loser takes 2nd Place in Conference
  • Tournament Semi-Finals
    • Conference A Champs vs Conference B 2nd Place
    • Conference B Champs vs Conference A 2nd Place

    • 3rd Place Game to determine 3rd Place and 4th Place – losers of the Tournament Semi-finals
