Meanwhile, the food in Pacitalia is widely considered the best the world has to offer. Heavy emphasis is visible on fresh pastas and vegetables, open-fire meats, dairy, oils, hot soups and desserts. However, Pacitalian cuisine is so encompassing that many dishes include other types of meats or meat alternatives (eggs, seafood), and a growing fusion-cuisine movement has grown, with many new Asian-fusion restaurants dotting the nightlife of Pacitalia's cities. As well, the minority groups of Pacitalia have contributed their own homeland cuisines, creating a vibrant culinary experience that no other country seems to offer.

Pacitalian interest in sport has been high since the nation itself came into existence. Early forms of sport faded away to be replaced by modern sports like football, American football, basketball, baseball, rugby, cricket and golf. The Pacitalian rugby, basketball and football teams consistently compete well amongst the other international squads, which has helped secure Pacitalia's place as one of the sporting greats of the world.

The Republic of Pacitalia or Pacitalia (Pacitalian: la Repubblica di Pacitalia) is a developed democratic country in Central America. It comprises a L-shaped land mass and sixteen large islands in the Pacific Ocean. Pacitalia shares its frontiers with Mexico, the United States, Moepoeia, Anubisyrria and Cherabania. It is a founding member of the Group of Six economic superalliance, and a member state of the Woodstock Pact, Union of World Powers and the Organization of Maritime Powers alliances, among others.

Pacitalians, as they are known, are generally an economically conservative but socially libertarian people, committing to the cause of capitalism but, at the same time, showing compassion through donations to causes for developing countries and supporting domestic policy that is liberal, like the legalisation of same-sex marriages in 2002. Although not the most libertarian nation in the world, residents and foreigners enjoy high social and economic freedom combined with fantastic scenery, a beautiful language and an insurmountably unique culture.

Generally, Pacitalian foreign policy displays peace before war, in the matter that the Progressive Democrat government attempts to bring the two sides of a dispute to a peaceful compromise instead of war, but that is not to say the Pacitalian government is willing to defend their interests at home and abroad. In late 2004, Pacitalia was involved in the restoration of the Sarzonian president after he was kidnapped in an internal coup. More recently, Pacitalia defeated the larger nation of Hiroshiko after the latter nation, who was the aggressor, threatened war over Pacitalian immigration policy. Hiroshiko was defeated in a matter of days.

As for the Pacitalian government structure, it is a specialised and unique system. Pacitalia uses what is known as the BCDR system, or 'bicameral constitutional democratic republic system'. Like a republic, there are two main leaders in the nation, however, unlike a true republic, there is no president and the prime minister is both the head of state and head of government. The prime minister is, therefore, in effect the president of the country, while the senior deputy prime minister is like the prime minister in a republic. The talk of reform to a true republic has been one of the hottest beats of domestic policy since the late 1990s.

Overall, Pacitalia is a safe, welcoming nation that wows any visitor and embraces any person. Consistently, the nation is rated in the top five overall national destinations by NationStates citizens, and has snagged the top or second spot seven of the last ten years. This entry is meant to increase your knowledge of Pacitalia while explaining some of the unique qualities of the nation.

People and Culture

Race, ethnicity, life and population

The Pacitalian population, overall, just passed 2.3 billion residents according to the last census. Aztecs and Mayans, the original inhabitants of the lands known now as Pacitalia, account for a mere 0.006 percent of the population (about 13.8 million residents), and sadly are classified in the "Other" category during census taking. Residents are predominantly ethnic Pacitalian but the nation maintains a multicultural distribution with sizeable Spanish, Romanian, Greek and Turkish minorities. The remainder is made up of of a wide diversity of other ethnicities like Russian, German, Dutch, Moroccan, Algerian, Scandinavian and Chinese.

Life expectancy in Pacitalia is extremely high and currently stands at an average of about 91 years. Pacitalian health care is privatised but still maintains a high standard of cleanliness, effectiveness and safety. Health care for foreigners is free in emergency situations, otherwise all users have to pay a small fee for services.

Pacitalian culture

Pacitalia is famous for its all-around intelligence and athletic prowess but it is the scientific and artistic realms that have earned Pacitalia its worldwide reputation as a unique cultural experience. Pacitalia remains a nation of philosophers, scientists, musicians, artists, leaders and diverse political beliefs that unite under the banner of freedom and love.

A large percentage of non-Pacitalians seem to think of the many residents of this nation as prim and proper do-good subjects of the Catholic faith and have a highly conservative background. This is only true to some extent. Pacitalians are, in the general sense, a mostly libertarian nation and one accepting of other cultures, races, beliefs and creeds. For the most part, Pacitalians do not try to force their beliefs on others, in addition to that acceptance of others.

The Environment

Current issues

Current environmental issues for Pacitalia include minor deforestation caused by uranium mining, coal-burning utilities and vehicle emissions impacting on agricultural and forest productivity, and ocean waters receiving slight contamination from agricultural activities. Pacitalia also is considered one of the nations that, by 2050, may be "water-stressed", or have a lack of present, fresh, potable water supply. To correct this, the three levels of government, in cooperation with environmental agencies and corporate contractors, are implementing 62 desalinisation and water treatment plants along the coasts to pump in salt water and convert it to fresh water. Both the salt product and water product will be treated, and the salt will be used for commercial use. The fresh water product will become part of the national water supply.

There are numerous natural hazards which Pacitalia has faced and may face again in the future including brush fires in the interior, hurricanes (Carib.), typhoons (Pac.), heavy winds, thunderstorms in the southern belt, earthquakes, tsunamis, volcanic eruptions, volcanic ashflows and liquefaction. Many of these natural disasters can have their damage effects minimised; the government and people are working hard to implement strategies in this regard.

International agreements

Pacitalia is a party to the following international environmental protection agreements: Air Pollution, Air Pollution-Nitrogen Oxides, Air Pollution-Persistent Organic Pollutants, Air Pollution-Sulfur 85, Air Pollution-Sulfur 94, Antarctic-Environmental Protocol, Antarctic-Marine Living Resources, Antarctic Seals, Antarctic Treaty, Biodiversity, Climate Change, Climate Change-Kyoto Protocol, Desertification, Endangered Species, Environmental Modification, Eutrophication Prevention, Hazardous Wastes, Marine Life Conservation, Ozone Layer Protection, Ship Pollution, Tropical Timber 83, Tropical Timber 94 and Wetlands. None of them have been signed without ratification.
