Welcome to the Federal Republic of Eagmont, a safe and devout region of over 500 million people*. The current leader is John Key, leader of the Conservative party.

  • Note=This is roleplaying figure. NationStates figure to inacurate.

Eagmont Government

Currently, the 2006-2009 government is a Coalition between the Conservative Party, and the now declining Liberal Party after its days as the 3rd majory party. The Prime Minister, John Key, is in his first term while Chris Mahone is serving as Deputy Prime Minister for the 2nd time.

The Coalition (as it is known as now) is a strong, Liberal-Conservative government with a lower Welfare State than most places in the world. They have one of the lowest tax rates (13%) that any Eagmontian Government has ever had. They also have one of the highest Education Passes in the world (94% of students pass the final exams)

Departmental Areas

Finance

Annually, the Eagmont Government spend around $17,742,473,125,000.00 ($17 Trillion Dollars). This mostly comes from tax, annual subsidies & off shore assets the Government has. The Minister for the Treasury is incharge of keeping the bank books in order, while the Minister for Finance is incharge of the Budget. Both wo/men work together so that their estimates and budgets are the same.

An embarrasing moment happened in 1991, when Labour-Green-Unionist Coalition Treasurer Iona Wallance and the Coalition Finance Minister Waldo Steel came out with different projected earnings and spendings for the year. This cost the government over 300 billion dollars.

The Budget is one of the most anticipated reports that come out each year. It is usually delivered on the 1st day of July, which is the start of the Summer Holidays for children. The Treasurer will attend this House of Representatives debate (usually s/he sits in the Senate) and take the Prime Ministers seat. The reading of the budget usually lasts for about 2-4 hours, and the Debate-in-Reply starts. The Prime Minister is not present for this debate.

At 9:30 pm that evening, the debate is come to an abrupt hault. The Treasurer carries the "Budget Book" (the hard copy) back to the under-ground holding area. The Treasurer, by law, must stay with the Budget Book in this area until the debate is done. Once a Treasurer died while waiting for the debate to finish- it took 1 year for it to be finally done, and this treasurer died of old age 10 months in.

Education

In Eagmont, it is compulsory to attend school at the age of 5. Parents have three options;

  • Primary School- The most common choice. This is where children learn the basics in English, maths and applying skills.
  • Prepatory School- Usually for the rich. This is where children learn alot of English, Maths, Science and Skills throughout the day. It is more advanced than Primary School learning, and inturn, it is more expensive.
  • Montisorreè - Pronounced Monnh-iss-oh-reih, this is an alternative school. It is focussed around the ideals of Religion and applying simple ideals to everyday life. Usually alot of parents who have either had hippie or native backgrounds choose this.

At age 13, the parents have 2 options;

  • High School- The most common choice. Children study up to 8 subjects, own choice. Students can study a medium range of subjects, which mainly include English, Maths, Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Physical Education, French or Russian (compulsory one or the other) and the Arts.
  • Private Charter School- Usually for the rich. This is a "specialist" school, which charters people to choose their career at an early age. English, French & Russian are compulsory, and then you take up to 5 other courses depending on your career (ie Law: English Literature, History, Law Studies & Systems and Managment). Usually school is on saturdays too.
