lērm apokalīptišen ausmases (Baranxeï transcription of German Lärm apokalyptischen Ausmaßes, "noise of apocalyptic dimension") is a Baranxtuan industrial and experimental band.

The five-member, all-female band is based in Ān-Baranxiž and has been described as the "pioneer of Baranxtuan industrial music".

History

Martina Pöpperl moved to Baranxtu from Mikitivity in 1996, and started to appear in Baranxtuan clubs under the pseudonym Nekropsie Total. In March 1998, she met Samaira Oleage at the club Trepanation, with whom she would soon after start the project Vivisektion Live. They soon became a phenomenon in the then still small Baranxtuan industrial scene, and drew the attention of Nuns With Crosses, the band of Arina Boulea and Iniga Marama, who experimented in hardcore techno.

The two bands started to produce a few joint projects under the name We! Maim! Rapists!. They went their separate ways again in late 1998, but came back together in 1999, founding lηrm apokalυptišen ausmases.

They recorded and published their first album "we kill democracy dead" on their own, and only one week after its release, the album topped the Baranxtuan alternative charts. This brought the band to the attention of Death Key, and they were signed in 2001.

Julienne Poulier did not joint the band until 2002. After her band Les Femmes Qui Violent had disbanded, she contacted lηrm apokalυptišen ausmases. They produced some trial tracks and decided to keep her.

Since then, lηrm apokalυptišen ausmases has regularly appeared in clubs in Baranxtu and Mikitivity. In 2006, they played their first gig in Cikoutimi.

Style

Language

Many songs by lηrm apokalυptišen ausmases feature a mix of at least two languages, sometimes more. They most often use English, German, French and Baranxeï. For example, the song "Aschenputtel's Brothel" from Carmina Vaginarum Dentatarum features all of them.

Other languages used include Spanish (on Contentamiento Aural and Todesschwadron), Latin (on Carmina Vaginarum Dentatarum), Nidajii (on I Wanna Be A Drag Queen) and Qi (on Vinyl Experience Before Fallin Asleep, Worst Of: and I Wanna Be A Drag Queen).

Influences

lηrm apokalυptišen ausmases is undeniably heavily influenced by the industrial scene of Mikitivity, the native country of founding member Martina.

Especially the experimental projects of the band have also been influenced by the variety of traditional music styles of Baranxtu, from Baranxtiman "kaiða andala" ("religious music") to the Qirian "shepherd's song".

Stage Acts

lηrm apokalυptišen ausmases self-stated goal is "to fuck with the minds of and offend idiots", for this, many of their stage acts consist of highly offensive display.

For example, in March 2004, when they played in La Trenche, a predominantly Roman Catholic town, Martina entered the stage dressed in a nun's habit and repeatedly simulated mastuarbation with a crucifix while onstage. Arina and Iniga were dressed as the Virgin Mary and Jesus, respectively, and alluded to incestual acts during the whole show.
