The Ministry of Foreign Affairs currently handles foreign affairs that has to do with foreign policy relations (whether regional or world-wide), diplomatic issues, humanitarian issues, and trade issues with other nations. The ministry for foreign affairs is often regarded as the most senior ministerial position below that of the Sovereign Monarch. A newly coronated Sovereign Monarch may either keep the previous foreign minister, appoint a new minister if he/she has one in mind, or enact a popular vote upon which a new minister is chosen by within the (1)foreign ministry; (2)government; or (3)entire kingdom.
In the recent past, the foreign ministers have all been non-partisan in order to play down party politics, as per Ex-Monarch HRH King Alexei's orders. The last partisan foreign minister was Bernhard Bollpoll, who quickly fell into disfavor when it was found that he was involved in illegal international backroom deals that lined his pockets with gold. Thereafter, during King Alexei's reign, the foreign minister had to be nominated by a trusted member of King Alexei's council of advisers and appointed. They typically led a 2 year probationary term, which led to a full 10 year-term when he was satisfied with the results.
When HRH Queen Joanne came to power, she expressed the wish for more public involvement in government positions, and insisted on picking her new right hand by popular vote, as the foreign policies might be closer to the wishes of all Einmyrian citizens. It was a decisively popular move, but it is yet to be seen whether that decision has resulted in a positive or negative impact on Einmyrian foreign policy. While the nation has joined the United Nations, many Einmyrian citizens are unsure as to what it really means for them on a day-to-day basis.
