The Right Honorable Otto Meyers, MRC (born 14 October 1839) was Hamptonshire's first and only, to date, Prime Minister born outside of Hamptonshire Proper. He was born to Mr. Edwin Meyers, the Hamptonian Minister to Pacitalia, and Signora Mrs. Maria Sazzuglia Meyers (née Antorigali) daughter of a Pacitlian banker.

Otto Meyers, despite only serving as Prime Minister for two years, has made his presence known in Hamptonian history. He was the first, and only, Prime Minister born in a foreign nation (though still on Hamptonian soil). He is also the only Prime Minister to come from Hamptonshire's ethnic Pacitalian minority. He was also the only Prime Minister until Bernard Allenby Sr. to hold a Ministry Portfolio while serving as Prime Minister. Mr. Meyers also holds the record as the longest serving Foreign Minister, holding office from 1884 until 1910.

Prime Ministership

Otto Meyers was appointed Prime Minister by Grand Duke Christian IX upon the Royal Senate's dismissal of Thomas Everett. While Charles Allenby was still the offical leader of the National Party and an active member of the Royal Senate, Mr. Allenby made it known to the Grand Duke that he would not accept another term as Prime Minister. With the Progressive Party still holding a nominal majority in the Royal Senate, a moderate candidate was needed. After conferring with Allenby and other senior political leaders, Christian IX decided to name Foreign Minister Otto Meyers as the tenth Prime Minister of Hamptonshire.

When called to Hampton Palace, Otto Meyers agreed to become Prime Minister on one condition: he would be allowed to retain the Foreign Ministry Portfolio. With the blessing of the Grand Duke, Meyers became Prime Minister on 3 March 1890. While an effective and respected administrator as well as publically popular, the Prime Minister's National Party was quickly losing electoral support. After the tremendous successes of the Christian Democrat Union in the 1891 legislative elections, Meyers' days as Prime Minister became numbered.

After losing a vote on an appropriations bill in the Royal Senate, Otto Meyers announced his intention to resign once a replacement was found. Four days later, on 7 May 1892, Spencer Johnson was appointed Prime Minister.
