The Suiseiseki class light cruiser is part of Bryn Shander's Year 00 Rearmament Plan, and is designed to replace the aging Musai Daioh class light cruiser that is now outclassed by Bryn Shander's new frigates and destroyers in all but strike craft compliment. An inital batch of 100 ships has been ordered and are under construction at shipyards throughout Bryn Shander, with the first fifty ships nearing completion.
Though based heavily on the Kusanagi class frigate and Trondheim class destroyer, the Suiseiseki class takes many of it's design features from the Usagi class heavy cruiser and Inverse class dreadnought. Such features include launch catapults for strike craft, symmetrical gun arrangements, and the capability for water landings after atmospheric flight. Unlike the Musai Daioh, which was little more than a heavily armed mobile suit carrier, the Suiseiseki is an excellent gunship, capable of going toe to toe with any ship in the old fleet.
One hundred vessels of the class have entered service with Bryn Shander, and the design has been exported to New Haven.
