Overview

The Year 00 Rearmament Plan was drafted by Bryn Shander after the period of isolation following the New Haven War and occupation of Bryn Shander's only ally. The plan called for the replacement of every ship in the space fleet, as well as new strike craft designs to be put into mass production. Once the new ships are completed and commissioned, the old fleet is to be decommissioned and scrapped or auctioned off, though some classes of ship such as the old Usagi class heavy cruisers and Artemis and Cassandra classes of destroyers are expected to be refitted and transferred to the police force as patrol craft.

Design Standardization

Unlike the warships of the previous fleet, the warships designed and constructed under the Year 00 Rearmament Plan all share common hull and weapon designs, with the form scaled up and modified as needed. Each of the ships of the new fleet are built around a spinal megaparticle cannon, with a long, sloping hull, and main guns arranged along the centerline in twin or triple turrets, with a pair more turrets fore than aft. For point defense, each ship also has a battery of twin 120mm autocannon mounts arranged along the side of the superstructure. Engines are placed on the stern and on two vertical nacelles. On the new cruisers and battleships, the nacelles also provide a measure of cover for the hangars and launch catapults.

New Technology

In another departure for the previous generation of ships which were designed and constructed before the technology was available, the ships of the Year 00 Rearmament Plan were equipped with FTL drives, shields, and non-EM sensor arrays from day-one, where the previous generation was outfitted with crude shields and FTL drives only after the formation of the original Concordat of Hermes and alliance with New Haven

Plan Status

  • The first class of ship to be designed and put into production as part of the plan was the Kusanagi (FF-1593) class frigate, which was constructed at the space fortresses Axis, Mathilde, A Baoa Qu, and Solomon. 300 ships of the class have been completed and entered service.
  • The second ship to be designed was the Trondheim (DD-637) class destroyer, which wass also constructed at Axis, Mathilde, Solomon, and A Baoa Qu. The Trondheim is heavily based on the design of the Kusanagi. 392 ships have been completed and commissioned.
  • The third class of ship, the Suiseiseki (CL-279) class light cruiser was constructed at shipyards in Axis, Mathilde, and Forodren Annon. 100 of the light cruisers have been completed.
  • The Galileo (SV-067) class, a science vessel based on the Suiseiseki class light cruiser has entered service. Sixteen ships of the class have been constructed.
  • The Achilles (CA-109) class heavy cruiser is under construction at shipyards throughout Bryn Shander.
  • Work on the Myrkul (BB-37) class battleships is under way at A Baoa Qu, Mathilde, Axis, and Forodren Annon.
  • The Helsinlki (OS-433) class ortillery ship is under construction and will replace the old Trebuchet class ortillery ships.
  • Two new fighters have entered mass production: The FA-01 Goshawk attack fighter and the FF-02 Sparrowhawk space superiority fighter.
  • Design studies are under way for the SD-06 class dreadnought.
