Universitus (also known as Universitus University, the Universitus School, or simply "U"; formerly known as the University of the Church of Jey and Jey University), is a coeducational, non-sectarian university located in the state of Domz in The Allied Empire of Jey, and the only Quaternary Education facility in the country. The massive university is larger than most cities within Jey, and the amount of students, faculty, or facilities maintained by the school is significantly larger than any other institution of higher learning. The founding date of the university is unknown (though can be approximated as roughly between the years 3600 - 3695 (JY)), as are the founder(s) of the school.

The rigors associated with Universitus are legendary within Jey and other countries. The perfection required by students in order to join the university is embodied within the school's motto, Perfectus, Latin for "perfect". All students within Jey have a direct possibility to be admitted into Universitus, but must do so by acquiring a certain percentage throughout standardized testing and grade point averages. The intense curriculum of Universitus produces some of the most successful of Jevian citizens.

History

Most of the history of Universitus is unknown, thus legendary tales are commonly used to explain unanswered questions concerning Universitus' history. Universitus is commonly thought to have been founded between the years of 3600 - 3695 (JY), easily making Universitus the first Jevian university of any sort. The university's oldest known diploma is from the graduating year of 3698, causing most to believe that the university was founded 3 years prior, allowing the known graduate to enter as a freshman in 3695. Until 4000, Universitus operated similarly to a postgraduate institution, allowing students to graduate in 4 years, after the conventional Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, and Senior years.

Universitus is known to have been founded initially as a sectarian institute for the followers of the Church of Jey, and, until 3879, the university was known as the University of the Church of Jey. Presidents prior to 3879 were known as "Provosts". Provost Alchelm McFir offered a referendum to the alumni, students, and faculty in 3879 to remove the affiliation the school had with the Church of Jey, which is said to have passed by a considerable margin, thus making McFir the last Provost and first President of Univsersitus. By 3900, the university began competing with other colleges across Jevian lands, and with a sizable endowment from its rich history of alumni, Univeristus quickly became known as the most prestigious university in all of Domzian territory. In 3922, President Dr. Uri Ferloshenberg renamed the school from Jey University to its current name, a move which is considered a statement of Universitus' prominence over other schools. Universitus, in Jevian, means "the University", thus the renaming of the school alludes to the university's position as the prestigious institution of Jey.

Upon the founding of the Allied Empire of Jey, Universitus underwent extreme changes. Prior to the country's independence, Universitus was already the largest university in Jey in terms of faculty, undergraduates, area, facilities, and endowment, as well as having the societal recognition as Jey's most selective and prestigious institution. Newly elected Emperor Drew Domz, himself an alumnus, sought to make reforms to the Jevian educational system as a whole, including an altering of Universitus' academic philosophies. Domz appointed himself President of the University, removing current President Rerthor Stiggit from office, and changed Universitus' purpose from an undergraduate level institute in Jey to a postgraduate school. Prior to that time, no postgraduate schools existed for the belief was that Jevian education was expansive enough that such institutions had no use.

For a period of 20 years, Domz allocated a guaranteed $100 billion annual endowment (95% of the country's budget for education) for the development of Universitus into the country's first "Quaternary Education" facility. During those 20 years, Universitus developed into the massive institute it is today. Domz further reformed the educational system by passing legislation which made Universitus the only Quaternary Education school in the country, giving his alma mater a monopoly on postgraduate students. The Emperor also appointed Dr. Rigorus Satact as the new President of the school for overseeing everyday activities within the institute, though Domz still retains his title within the school. With monetary and legislative assistance from perhaps its most famous alumnus, Universitus has quickly developed into the most prominent place of learning in Domzian lands.

Universitus has two levels of organization: academic organization and political organization.

Political

Politically, because of its great size, Universitus is considered a Jevian City, and the land owned by the university is known as The City of Universitus in political terms. Universitus thus has its own municipal government with respective governmental buildings, police force and emergency control organizations.

Universitus was granted the status of a City in 4050, when the population of the area had become too large to continue without some form of local government outside of the university's jurisdiction. The government of Universitus the city consists of a mayor, deputy mayor, head attorney, treasurer, head sheriff, and city council consisting of 10 members, representing one of 10 Universitus districts. Non-city council members of the government are elected to office for a period of 15 Jevian Years, while the city council is elected to 10 Jevian Year terms. Politically, the City of Universitus has been historically in favor of the Jevian Empirical Party, as each mayor elected from the popular vote has represented the JEP.

Academic

The academic organization of Universitus has two distinct categories: before and after graduation from the university.

Undergraduate

<div" class="plainlinksneverexpand">towerrsmallab8.jpg

</div>

Before graduation, Universitus is organized into over 200 academic departments consisting of over 1000 distinct colleges which all focus extensively on the pursuits of the individual student. In the 1341 colleges which comprise Universitus undergraduate academics, an average of 624 classes are offered. Colleges within the university range from as broad and imprecise as The Universitus McGiel College of Liberal Arts for the Undecided to as specific as The Universitus Aarons College of Carcinogenic Pancreatic Cells. Within each of these colleges, classes become more specific and more focused pertaining to both the student's strengths and planned academic pursuits.

Though most institutions which maintain a significant amount of individual colleges are known as "University Systems," Universitus maintains its singularity as a solitary University within the city borders, due to the adjacency of all colleges within the city. The only exception to this singularity are Universitus' various satellite and international campuses, which are considered part of a Universitus University System.

Postgraduate

After graduation, Universitus has a much different organizational structure. Students may choose to either enter into one of Universitus' 552 postgraduate schools for more extensive learning, enter into Universitus, the city, and compete for job positions in some of the most respective companies within Jey, or leave the grounds completely. 99.8% of students choose one of the first two options, with less than 500 students leaving the grounds indefinitely every year. If students enter into one of Universitus' postgraduate institutions, the same expansive and comprehensive education will be offered as in undergraduate schools, though at a higher level. Students may also choose to enter into a Universitus Profession (which can also be entered into after postgraduate learning). Students in a Universitus Profession (any job which is inside the boundary of the university) are still considered students of Universitus as the school owns the lands the students work on, the markets in which they compete, and the businesses for which they work. Thus, many students do not cease being enrolled in Universitus until their death. Universitus postgraduate institutions are addressed as "Postgraduate Schools" in their formal titles, unlike Universitus undergraduate schools, addressed as "Colleges."

Campuses

Universitus maintains a Main Campus as well as many campusus throughout other nations.

Main

The Main Campus of Universitus is located in the far western portion of the state of Domz, near the coast of the Domzian Ocean. Located approximately 100 miles from the City of Alen and 150 miles from Domz City, the grounds of the university comprise the City of Universitus. The Main Campus is remarkably large, consisting of 381 square miles (982 km²), or nearly 250,000 acres. The Main Campus is located in the temperate region of Domz, and sees a climate similar to Domz City.

Surrounding the Main Campus of Universitus includes Universitus Suburbia, various areas of suburban neighborhoods which have been established on the outskirts of the city limits. Along with these suburban settlements, the Main Campus is bordered by the largest natural reserve in Jey the Universitus Preserve, a 421 square mile stretch of land which includes some of Jey's most scenic woodlands. Views from Universitus buildings near the preserve provide a panoramic view of various sites famous to Universitus tourism. The preserve includes botanical gardens, arborita, wildlife preservation areas, among many other nature sites.

The Main Campus is notable for its extremely varied architectual mediums, which are usually separated into specific section. For instance, most of the Victorian, Modern, Gothic, Neoclassical, Neolithic, Postmodern, Pueblo, and Deconstructivist buildings remain in their own unofficial "Architectural Area," among many more architectural styles. The construction of these areas was a planned occurance, thus the Main Campus is very deliberately presented, with many of the buildings sorted into various quadrangles. Because of its abundant endowment, Universitus has spared no grandiosity in its construction of elaborant landscaping and extremely expensive and large buildings very commonly composed of precious metals.

Facilities

Universitus maintains a wide variety of facilities located inside the Main Campus, surrounding the Main Campus, and around Jey and other countries. The university controls over 10,000 libraries in a large multitude of concentrations, along with over 5,000 laboratories for various scientific research fields. Also for reasearch studies, Universitus owns the most high-powered telescopes and microscopes in Jey. Universitus also owns a large amount of recreational areas across Jey for both tourism and its affiliated students, such as the Universitus Preserve and Universitus Island, a 500-square mile island off the southeastern coast of Domz, accessible to Universitus students and alumni. For Tildes Skills Students, a wide range of sporting facilities, artist studios, and music auditoriums and recording studios are available across the nation for Universitus students and alumni.

The Ivy Gate

Perhaps the most legendary aspect of Universitus' Main Campus is the Ivy Gate, a large rectangular security structure circumscribing the boundary of the Main Campus which, over the years, has come to be entirely encased in ivy. The security structure was created as a large 3-story construction which housed the whole of the Main Campus of Universitus within its walls, for the purpose of ensuring that no person not affiliated with Universitus was allowed inside. As ivy is a thriving plant in the Domz Region, it was not long for the entire rectangular building to become wholly covered in the plant. As so few have had the privelige of passing through the gate, The Ivy Gate quickly received legendary status throughout Universitus and all of Jey. As the rules of The Ivy Gate state: Only those who are or were studying at, employed by, or have an immediate family member of someone who was or is studying at or employed by Universitus is allowed to pass through the gate. Universitus has turned The Ivy Gate into an aspect of its Matriculation Ceremony, as each matriculated student's name is announced before the gate is opened and the student steps through the ivy, into the Universitus campus for the very first time.

International Initiatives

Admissions

See Tildes Skills School for information pertaining to its differences to other Universitus schools regarding admission.

Universitus has by far the most selective admissions process in Jey and all Domzian Lands. Technically speaking, every student enrolled in Jevian schools is within the Universitus admissions process, however, very few meet the steep requirements for acceptance into Universitus.

</div>

Admission into Universitus begins during Jevian Tertiary Education, Graduate Education. Students enrolled in Graduate Education that have below a 97% cumulative grade average are not considered for acceptance into Universitus. Those that meet this preliminary requirement are given the opportunity to formally apply to Universitus through the taking of the Universitus Test (UT). In the Universitus School Year beginning in 4160 ("school years" in Universitus comprise 5 full Jevian Years), a total of 111,498,231 students met the preliminary requirement, of which 111,440,124 students applied to Universitus and took the UT. Those students who apply to Universitus and score a perfect score on the UT are then reviewed for final admission into the university, which takes into account past performances throughout Graduate Eduaction and other levels of Jevian schooling, as well as extracurriculars and other aspects of each individual student. Of those that applied, 276,447 received a 100.0% score on the UT. That number was reduced to 250,994 who were offered acceptance into Universitus. 249,312 of those students matriculated to form Universitus' Entry Class of 4160. (As graduation dates differ considerably for each student, Class years are entered as the year during which the students enter Universitus.) Thus, statistically speaking, the admissions rate for Universitus is 0.002%, though, if one considers all students who wished to apply to Universitus, the admission rate would be lower.

For postgraduate schools, Universitus graduates typically fare well, with 98.52% of applicants from Universitus being accepted into their first choice of postgraduate schools. Universitus also allows outside applicants who previously took the UT to apply for postgraduate education, though very few are allowed admission. Of 43,256,994 outside applicants for Universitus postgraduate education, 319,119 were offered admission this year, a 0.007% admission rate.

Profile

As the admissions criteria required, the average score for all 250,994 accepted into Universitus for the year 4160 was 100.0%. With regard to other standardized Jevian tests, students accepted had an average score of a 99.672% on the Jevian Aptitude Test and a 99.241% on the Elementary Education Graduate Test. Most other non-mandatory standardized examinations, such as the Domz Leadership Aptitude Test, had accepted students scoring in the high 99th percentile. All but 364 students of the 250,994 accepted into Universitus scored in the top 5% of their graduating Graduate Education class, with 99.314% being the average GPA. 68% of those accepted listed themselves as ethnically Jevian, with the rest all Domzian Minorities. Due to application restrictions, only Jevian citizens may apply to the main campus of Universitus, thus no international students were enrolled in the main campus. Universitus' International Initiatives help to provide international students with Universitus-level education. Percentages for postgraduate schools are relatively similar.

Academics

<div" class="plainlinksneverexpand">addz1.jpg

The breadth and rigor of Universitus academics is well known throughout Jey.

Faculty

Universitus maintains some of the most respected faculty in Jey and other countries. The faculty are commonly comprised of the highest-ranking professionals in Jey in their respective fields. For instance, political science and government students enjoy the teachings of current Emperor Drew Domz, Deputy Emperor Hal O'Brien, Former Deputy Emperor and UN Representative Vance Aceon, among many other elected officials. Science and mathematical students receive teachings from Jevian professors who have received a number of international medals and awards, and TSS students are taught by the most highly repsected athletes, musicians, and artisans within Jey.

Undergraduate students at Universitus enjoy a 1:1.2 student to faculty ratio, making Universitus the only institution of learning in Jey in which the formal faculty actually outnumber the student body. Universitus attracts thousands of new faculty annually because of its ability to provide faculty with technologies which can stretch the bounds of their fields and students who are capable of introducing new ideas and findings.

Courses

Course selection at Universitus is highly irregular and unique. Once admitted students select their department and concentrations to study, they may either enroll in already created classes, or create classes of their own. To create his or her own class, the student must write a report as to the relevance of the class to his or her concentration of study, create a syllabus, and list primary and secondary potential teachers, whether these potential faculty actually work at Universitus or not. If the report, syllabus, and lists are approved by the Department of Course Selection, Universitus honors the student's created class by pursuing every possible method to sign the suggested faculty to a contract to teach the new class. If none of the potential teachers sign on to teach the class, Universitus will provide their own suggested faculty to teach the class, given the student chooses to pursue the class without his or her suggested faculty. In the past, students have created classes for government taught by high ranking government executives, business management classes taught by the leaders of the most profitable companies, sports management classes taught by the owners of the most successful sports franchises, among many other student-created classes.

Ranks

Universitus has consistently been ranked the best institute of higher learning by The Jevian Higher Education Report since the report's inception over 50 Jevian Years ago. The system takes into account peer assessment scores, student/faculty ratios, student retention percentages, faculty resources ranks, selectivity ranks, acceptance ratings, and endowment. Universitus is compared to all schools in Jey in this assessment, and this report is the only report conducted exclusively through the Jevian Government. Universitus has not participated in similar reports internationally.

Arts and Athletics

to operate under a different shield.
</div>

The totality of the arts and athletics at Universitus is managed through the Tildes Skills School--a undergraduate and postgraduate institution within Universitus that maintains a moderate amount of autonomy within the university. A total of 3600 students attend the school yearly, as 900 are selected yearly from across Jey: 300 for the Athletics program, 300 for the Musical program, and 300 for the Arts program. All students who attend the Tildes Skills School (TSS) are required to go on to postgraduate training at the school as well. Undergraduate students may select from over 300 colleges located within the school itself, as many times new colleges are founded to serve the incoming student's individual needs. At TSS, students receive at least 3 individual personal teachers to develop their specific skills, along with classes to learn more about their crafts and normal education as well. The admissions process for TSS is widely different from all other Universitus schools, and TSS tends to operate independently from the university outside of public performances of skills such as athletic games. All of Universitus' Varsity sports clubs, official musical groups, and artistic organizations are affiliated with the Tildes Skills School. Junior Varsity and club-level sports are open to non-TSS Universitus students.

<div" class="plainlinksneverexpand">udaresizedzc0.jpg

</div>

Universitus has 60 Varsity teams in a wide variety of sports, all with their own respective TSS College, which typically perform well against other schools of the same level in Jey and internationally. As Universitus has no other school at the same Quaternary Education level in Jey, most of its athletic rivalries occur between Graduate Educational Universities. In particular, Universitus maintains a strong rivalry with Domz University, especially in football and tennis. Universitus maintains a lengthy list of championships in a number of sports in the University Athletic Association, a collegiate sports organization which places varsity sports teams of Tertiary and Quaternary schools against one another. Many students in TSS athletics are signed to professional contracts during their Universitus years, which they must honor even during the period of the contract.

In music and fine arts, the Tildes Skills School maintains a wide definition of "art," admitting students from an extremely expansive aesthetic perspective. TSS Colleges in music and the arts can range from The TSS Wesley College of Geometric Wood Carving to The TSS McGuiel College of the Viola. These art and musical students create a number of organizations within Universitus to raise appreciation of the arts and to provide entertainment. Some students, such as certain architectural students, even improve upon the university with designing and sometimes constructing new buildings to expand the scope of the university, and the horticultural students designing and planting the university's various landscaping. As with athletics, many students engage in professional artistic pursuits during their years at Universitus, such as joining the Jevian Orchestra, as many musical students have done throughout the years.
