Urbanites

Urbanites is a left-wing region originally created by members of the Urban75 collective.

Welcome to Urbanites! Established by members of the notorious Urban75 collective, this region is now a cosmopolitan haven for NationStates from all corners of the globe. This region was established before founders were invented, which suits us: Urbanites aren't anybody's subjects!

Selective History

The Urbanites was one of the major players in the early days of defence missions along with the Alliance of Socialist States and Proletariat Coalition. Having in excess of 55 UN nations meant that when called upon the Region could always provide a substantial amount of help. Hestrael was one of teh early delegates who served with great dignity and was succeeded by Insaaniyat under whom much development of the region occurred and new alliances were formed and the defence force of the Urbanites increased substantially. Insaaniyat stepped down as delegate after a reign of more than 6 months and Anarchotopia became delegate.

Democracy always played an important role in Urbanite life and so a system of advocates was introduced during the early days. Major advisors to the delegate were Anarchotopia, 3AM Eternal, White Lotus Eaters, Carsaig and Iuthia. Each advising on different subjects be it intel or cultural affairs. Through it excellent advocacy and distribution of power the region expanded steadily.

The Urbanites first major involvement in international politics was the membership in the fledgeling MASS Alliance. Started by Jako of The Proletariat Coalition, the Marxist-Anarchist-Socialist-Syndicalist Alliance embodied a loose unity of left wing ideals, which was perfect for Urbanites, a region gradually developing a left-political outlook. Initially this was under Arnarchotopia as delegate.

When Arnarchotopia retired from the Delegacy and White Lotus Eaters took over, the region grew a little more inactive internationally and gradually slipped out of the MASS Alliance, until only Arnarchotopia was left, as an individual nation, as opposed to an Urbanites representative.

All of this changed when EuroSoviets took a decision to pull the Allied States of EuroIslanders out of the MASS Alliance, effectively dissolving the alliance, since The Proletariat Coalition was not far behind. EuroSoviets drafted a charter of a new alliance, the Red Liberty Alliance and the ASE promptly ratified it, about a week and a half before TPC. New left wing regions joined up until the RLA decided to launch a diplomatic offensive to win back the interests of Urbanites: this was successful and Urbanites signed up to the RLA.

White Lotus Eaters served with distinction as the Director of Allied Affairs of the RLA, prior to the change between first and second charters of the organisation. WLE sadly fell into inactivity and ceased to exist. El Turk took on the delegacy and continued RLA membership, supported by Tibetania and Free Iuthia. Iuthia became delegate following the fall into inactivity of El Turk and serves his region until the present time.
