General Info

Liverpool England is in the region of The Heartland, and has always been bar a few times when regional arguements got in the way. The nation is most reputed for its' sporting achievements, having won two major sporting titles, and hosting two others, excluding minor competitions inside The Heartland.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, liberal, pro-business government stops and the rest of society begins, but it is effectively ruled by the Department of Defence, with areas such as Healthcare and Public Transport receiving almost no funds by comparison. The average income tax rate is 100%. A powerhouse of a private sector is dominated by the Information Technology industry, ranking 7th in The Heartland and 872nd in the world at last count.

Government

Liverpool England used to be run by the President, Dave Goh, who refused to hold major elections, only allowing constituency elections. When the nation became the Greater Imperial Kingdom, Goh took the throne, but later stepped down in favour of elections, where he secured a narrow victory over Konishiwa Itshumitzu by under 1% of the vote.

Present Day

Presently, Goh and Itshumitzu hold President and Vice President positions, although they leave the running of the country to Premier Marc Newells, who served as Sport Minister, later Defence Minister, under Goh.

National elections still rarely happen, but more local elections take place. Three main parties contest elections, however, most of the time the main party, which is the ruling party, wins.

Politics, Regional and Global

Regional

The Liverpool England government are active within The Heartland, and were thrice elected to the Heartland High Council before elections were scrapped within the region. Liverpool England is also a founding member of the Partnership for Peace and Prosperity, alongside Grays Harbor, Aerigia and Clearwater. The Partnership contained over 15 members, but this number has since decreased.

Global

The government has gone into isolation from global politics, but still maintain certain ties with other nations. Occasionally, the Government will choose to step into conflict, but it rarely happens.

Sporting Notes

Local Sports

Baseball

14 teams take part in two seperate leagues over three divisions, 7 in each league. The top 4 of League A, and winner and runner up of League B Division II, and winner of League B Division I, and League B wildcard winner qualify for the playoffs.

Football (Soccer)

51 teams take part in a joint league/cup tournament structure, with teams playing each other twice, home and away, 100 games over 20 weeks with 4 games a week. This was introduced by the FALE to encourage a better youth system, as teams' main players would get tired playing every game. The top 32 teams qualify for the second round, where they play each other twice again, home and away, 62 games over 13 weeks. The top 16 then qualify for the cup in a two-legged knockout until the final, which is played 44 weeks after the start of each season. The traditional season-closer is played between the cup winner, and league winner (top placed team of league after 100 games) or second placed team if the same team won both league and cup.

International Sports Scene

There are national teams for field hockey, ice hockey, baseball (although there are no major events except the Olympics that the team takes part in), and football. Liverpool England has also successfully hosted two major international sports tournaments, the Field Hockey World Cup, and the Baptism of Fire Cup. The nation is also getting ready to host the 11th Field Hockey World Cup, and is bidding to host the 19th World Cup.
