HMSH Don Claudius V Dácil Montajìque (1956 — ) is the Grand Duke of Vassfforcia since August 1st 2005, after the now ruling coalition PCD-PST won the extraordinary elections called after the corruption scandal in which Jean III D’Oqquer was the protagonist.

Personal Life

Claudius was born in Prubdablia, Letia as the second son of the marriage between the noble Silvia Montajìque and Enrique Fontano and, as tradition marks, Claudius just received his mother's surname as the first surname and his father’s as the second. He had a rich and comfortable childhood between his family house in a high-class neighborhood at Prubdablia and the Palau Negro, the Montajìque Traditional Estate near Montaura City. His brother Enrique and him went to the Schola Latina Montaurensis, one of the most prestigious elementary and high schools in the country, at Árdeled, Montaura. There, they studied since they were six and until they finished their baccalaureate. Then, Claudius went as thousands of Vassfforcians to the UNV in Nomental, Dohendor, where he studied Politics and Economy. He graduated from both careers on 1981 and started his political career in Prubdablia.

He met Valeria Sény in Prubdablia in 1983 and two years later married her. They had three children: Claudius on December 1983, Joan on March 1986 and Valeria on November 1987. They divorced in 1990 because of insolvable problems and no member of the family has ever disclosed more information about it.

It is unknown whether he has a stable relation or not, as he always appears alone at public acts

Early Career

As a noble, he had a good advantage for politics mainly because of the prestige of his surname. However, he rapidly proved to be a great negotiator and a very good politician. First, he served as Municipal Trustee in the Regió de Prubdablia, a comarca within the Metropolitan Area of the City of Prubdablia (ZMCP), where he showed for the first time his abilities.

Then, in the elections of 1986 he was presented by the PCD as candidate for the Letian Parliament (in Spanish, Asamblea de Letia). There, he became renowned for his abilities as negotiator and conciliator and for his independence from the party. These, gained him many enemies within the party, but in 1989 he presented his independent candidacy to be reelected for the 89-91 period and won with a large difference, thus the PCD invited him back to party and he accepted after consulting his electors.

However, he resigned before his period ended because he was postulated as candidate for Mayor the ZMCP by a PCD-PST Alliance and he won the election without many trouble. As mayor he spent on public transport and welfare, but he also stimulated investment in the city. All these gave him nationwide fame.

Federal Senator & Chancellor

Because of the national fame he gained after being mayor, the Montajìque Family named him Representative of the Family before the Grand Senate, thus entering national politics. There, he rapidly got a lot of attention by the media and in the federal elections of 1997 he was postulated as federal senator by a PCD-PST Alliance and won without much difficulty. As federal senator he supported Ericqa Buchani after the election to become Chancellor, but continued being renowned for his political independence from the party.

Then, in 2001, as HMSH Don Francesco II Montajìque, his grand-uncle, abdicated after his thirty-three-year period, and Claudius saw his first opportunity for becoming Grand Duke, but due to his young age and inexperience in the fedeal government, he was defeated on the elections by Ericqa Buchani while Felipe Berenguer became Chancellor. However, only three years later, in 2004, as Ericqa I abdicated because of health reasons, Montajìque had his second opportunity for becoming Grand Duke. Nevertheless, he was defeated once more, this time by his political opponent, the not-noble Jean d'Oqqer. But, as he was now the leader of the PCD-PST Coallition, he was elected Chancellor and then, the Montajìque House named him Patriarch of the House and the Montauran Council elected him Dácil of Montaura. But he was much more interested on his duties as Chancellor and on opposing the Grand Duke.

d’Oqqer’s Fall

When the corruption scandal of the d'Oqqer administration aroused a year later, he used his high post to ask the Grand Senate to remove d'Oqqer. However, this proved to be much more difficult, as d’Oqqer, already crazed by power, tried to make a coup d’état against the Grand Senate, but Generalísimo Bernardo Reyes, current War Minister, and all the other chiefs of the armed forces did not supported him and the II Legión de Dragones Dorados was sent to protect the building. Meanwhile, Vassfforcia la Serenísima was on fire because of the rioting through the city. Finally, the Palau Ducal was taken by the loyal forces but d’Oqquer and most of his ministers had already ran-away to the Rogue Nation of Friends of Ours in Wysteria. Then, the Grand Senate declared a state of emergency, removed him from the post and called for immediate elections. Elections were held, and Montajìque, as leader of the PCD-PST Coallition was named Grand Duke by the Senate. On August 1st 2005 Claudius V Dácil Montajìque was enthroned.

Reign

As Grand Duke, Montajìque has had similar policies to those that he had as Mayor of the ZMCP, investing on education, welfare and the army (the spending on defense had decreased since after the Constitutional Reform of 52). As Grand Duke he has had some great achievements and other enormous failures.

Foreign Policies

In Foreign Relations Montajìque has been anything but the typical Vassfforcian leader. First, he changed the policy and made the country a mayor actor in the Heartland.

Dashake

His most important success has been the establishment of an embassy and normal relations with the Commonwealth of Dashake which were nearly inexistent before. Now, the two countries are building two bridges between them and have had military cooperation in Breenonia and New Yavin.

Grays Harbor

The relationship with Grays Harbor has been acid as scandal broke after Montajìque had a discussion with HM Queen Marylin of Grays Harbor at a diplomatic dinner at Dashake because of the Vassfforcian criticism of the Harberian policy to New Yavin.

The diplomatic crisis was characterized by the unprecedented number of civilian demonstrations of patriotic sympathy in both countries and a lot of incendiary articles on the newspapers. It rapidly dissapeared from the media, but both ambassadors were expelled and now the Vassfforcian diplomatic representation in under the responsibility of a Chargé d'affaires.

This crisis has also had many repercussions in the war in Breen, where Vassfforcia and Grays Harbor (among many other countries) are fighting in the same side against the Yavinian rebels who have taken control over the country.

Yavinian War

After the Yavinian rebels used nuclear weapons against the royalist and the harberian army on year 2005, every country in the Heartland condemned the action and most of them decided to send help for the victims. However, as the Vassfforcian government had heavily critized the Haberian actions prior to the use of nuclear weapons, they did not allow the Vassfforcian Armed Forces to enter to the country. However, the Vassfforcian government was decided to aid the Yavinian population, and they built a refugee camp on Animus, south of Yavin in cooperation with the Dashani forces.

Breen War

Many of the Yavinian rebels were able to runaway in submarines before the nuclear explosions, and some of the rebel leaders went to hid in Breenonia, a country suffering from a 20-year civil war. With their weapons, the faction they supported rapidly took power, and put a puppet government. When it was known that behind the new Breen leaders were the Yavinian rebels, Grays Harbor, the GAN, Dashake and Vassfforcia all decided to invade the country. Thus in may 2006, 10 legions of the Vassfforcian Army (100'000 men fully equipped), about 3 air force legions and three carrier fleets from the Vassfforcian Navy attacked the country along with the Harberians, Dashani and the air support from the GAN members. Vassfforcian forces occupied the eastern part of the country while the Harberians invaded from the north and the Dashani from the south.

Varangian Confederacy

During his reign a free trade agreement was signed with the newly established Varangian Confederacy which includes chapters for education and cultural cooperation.
