History

In 1559, Dutch explorer Peiter Kedaalf, the same explorer who first explored the area of Kedalfax, discovered the Giotizian Islands. The islands became a Dutch colony until the Giotizians revolted in 1890, during the Mid-Simtropolis War. Kedalfax assisted Giotizia, Hollnersville, and the other areas to revolt against the Dutch rule. When the Separatists won, the Giotizian Islands and Hollnersville were given to Kedalfax. Kedalfax gave them sovergnty.

In 1967, the hippie movement was at its peak. The area of Hague in Rensselaer became central to the hippie movement in Giotizia. The "Summer of Love" also saw the legalization of marajuana and LSD in Giotizia. The economy continued to soar, until 1972.

In 1972, a lack of oil hit Giotizia's economy hard. The Jedu Motor company, the largest company in the nation, had been making inefficient vehicles, and now the soaring prices of fuel sent them almost into bankruptcy.

The economy continued suffering until the early '80s, when the emergence of technological media gave the economy a huge boost. Then, for an unknown reason that still confuses the best economists to this day, the economy collapsed again.

In 1994, the drug laws were tightened after the Kedalfaxian Government pressured the Commonwealth Legislation to enact stricter Commonwealth-wide drug laws. LSD was illegalised, and the minimum age at which a person could possess or smoke marijuana was raised to 18. More information on the drug laws is included below.

Sometime in late April, 2007, the islands of Giotizia disappeared. Scientists believe it was rising sea levels that destroyed the islands. Most of the island nation's residents fled to nearby Maverick Island, part of the Republic of Metropolitan Houston.

Drug Laws

The drug laws in Giotizia became very lax in the '60s, but were made tighter in 1994. In 1997, they were tightened to the state that they were before the nation's disappearance.

Legal recreational drugs: Marijuana

Age to possess: 18

Age to use: 18 (Medical uses excepted)

Tax: 5% national tax on all purchases, certain municipalities charge up to 3% more.

Driving under influence: Illegal, at least 3 years jail if nobody is hurt.

Smoking of marijuana and tobacco is on sidewalks, except in designated zones. Restaurants may not allow smoking of marijuana or tobacco in the same room as the non-smoking area, which is mandated by law. Bars, pubs, and the like do not need a non smoking area.

Government Officials

The naming of the government officials came from naval tradition. The leader of the nation was known as the "Admiral", the next in command was the "Vice Admiral." The Admiral had an assisting comity, made up of "Commodores", as in "Commodore of Defence", "Commodore of the Exterior", et cetera. The Commodores' departments had sub-divisions, which were run by "Captains", for example, the Captain of Commerce served directly under the Commodore of the Interior. The leaders of Sectors (like provinces), of which there were five, were called Governors.

Geography

Giotizia was made up of 30 separate islands in the Gulf of Simtropolis. These islands were divided into five sections containing six islands each.

Sections

Rensselaer Section

Governor: Pieter Goeylin

The Corning Section was made up of Henry Island, Jonas Island, Jeremias Island, King's Island, Noortwyck Island, and Kiliaen's Island. The first five islands were low and flat.

Kiliaen's Island was mostly flat, with some larger hills developing toward the western peninsula. It was the biggest island in the section, and the largest in the nation. It contained the nation's two largest cities; Rensselaer, which was also the national and sectional capital; and St. Maarten. It was also the island with the highest production of Marijuana in the nation.
