Background

The Four Worlds of Kajal were initially founded as the Imperium of Kajal in AD 1126, through the conquest of the nations of Kajal by what is now the province of Mejar. The Imperium itself was founded with the original goal of uniting the Kajali people under one flag, without the bickering and inevitable bureaucracy that often accompanies democracy.

While there are many historical sites across Kajal, such as cave paintings, or crude tunnel complexes, remains obtained through archeological excavations show that the planet of Kajal has only been inhabitated by Kajali for approximately 35,000 years. The public had been largely unconcerned with the questions of the origin of the Kajali people during the Imperial Era, and the governments of the various nations of Kajal during the Pre-Imperial Age were generally too busy making war or bickering with each other over trade disputes.

As a nation, Kajal has nearly always been isolated from outside interference. Its location is far enough away that Kajal did not recieve the first televised broadcast of Earth until 2379, though more recently, programming from Earth has been sent to the Four Worlds using subspace communications technology.

Kajal achieved Faster than Light ability in late 2003, and has improved upon the technology to the point that it is commonplace for a civilian to travel between Kajal and Sol regularly. The establishment of Kajal Mars, in early August of 2003, helped to further consolidate Kajali assets within Sol, as well as allowing for a higher level of interaction with the nations residing within the star system.

The current date in Kajal is Cela Dan, 900DE (Democratic Era). This date corresponds to June 2, 2904AFY.

Cultural Data

Kajal is a vibrant, economically powerful nation, perhaps known best for it's extensive use of subspace technologies. From orbit, Kajal Prime is a verdant blue planet with small, but densely packed equatorial continents. The lights of the largest cities light up the planet with sapphire and emerald light at night, and while decidedly high tech, many of the cities are both beautiful and embraced by nature, whether by accident or design. The capital, Kajurmani, is home to many vertical forests - a concept not unknown to Earth, as it had been proposed in the early 21st centure, however, no where else are the specific visions of vertical forests realized. Kajurmani melds cobalt structures with verdant greens across many districts.

Kajali architecture, in the traditional sense, is grand and opulent, making great use of massive pillars and arches. There is no better example then the standard Kajali embassy design. While by no means a small building, Kajali embassies are best described as stout, though they themselves are always possessed of the characteristic decadence of Kajal, standing out in their respective districts not only in architecture but function. Kajali embassies can, and often do, double as nightclubs.

Modern Kajali architecture, on the other hand, is a practice not unlike radical post-modernism. Kajurmani is best known for it's gleaming cobalt spires, of which few other cities are possessed of in the same numbers. The functionality of such buildings is high, and as such, the designs are often replicated. Kajurmani's character is unique among many Kajali cities, possessing what today can be described as a metropolitan atmosphere. This is lent, to a degree, to the sister city of Dajar, however, unlike Kajurmani, Dajar and many other cities on Kajal are not unlike the Vancouver of Earth's British Columbia. Often, the buildings are more utilitarian, and it is quite obvious to the observer that Kajurmani is a vibrant cultural center, while Dajar is fixated primarily on industry.

Kajali starships and embassies showcause one of the prime ingredients in Kajali culture. The standard non-military transport ship in Kajal is opulent to the excess, with massive quarters and more amenities then most sentients think possible. However, it is worth noting that such vessels are not designed in such a manner to hold quarters that would seem victorian... All such vessels, like the housing of the elite upper class, are practices in the ultra-modern movement in Kajali decor, being tastefully minimalist in their extremely polished presentation. It should be noted, however, that while this trend carries throughout the Four Worlds, and the associated colonies, Kajal Mars has adopted cultural values closer to terran norms, often preferring victorianesque decadence to that of Kajal proper.

(In short, Kajal shops at Ikea, and Kajal Mars at the antiques store.)

It is no secret that the cultures of Kajal and Kajal Mars now differ greatly. Kajal is one of high technology, of a vibrant nightlife possessed of a fast paced electronic, and energizing atmosphere. Kajal today may very well be regarded as a prolific producer of music played both on the terran and martian club circuits. Kajali music on a whole is suitable for such venues, and it has been remarked that it often holds a specific feel best identified as "vaguely eastern." Kajali music that drops below 130 BPM is a rarity, and many songs produced in Kajal and exported to Mars and Terra have been relatively consistent performers in their genres. With a booming beat and exquisite bassline, Kajali may qualify as it's own subgenre of modern Trance music, though at current it is simply categorized with the aforementioned genre.

On a whole, Kajali themselves are not dissimilar in appearance to modern elves. The species is capable of producing individuals with the same variety of skin tones as humans, but Kajali are most commonly dark skinned, not unlike the residents of India. Variations are often due to the introduction of genetic material from sources such as Sol. While itself uncommon, the majority of Kajali rulers in the past have been fair skinned, their families hailing from the more temperate northern continents. The dark skinned Kajali is typically regarded as average, and as the stock form of the species, considering that the Kajali species would appear to have evolved on the largest equatorial continent.

Unlike elves, however, the Kajali lifespan is somewhat definite. At the time of first contact with Sol, the average Kajali could expect to live to at least 250 years of age, before life extension treatments. On average, the Kajali of the present will live to approximately 600 Terran years without life extension treatments. Theoretically it is possible that extension treatments would continue to extend the lifespan, however, such procedures have not been in practice for a sufficient period of time to draw definitive conclusions.
