People

The people of Mannerstein are a mixed bag of Germanic, Nordic, and Slavic people, with the Germanic and Nordic people holding most of the power. On the whole, the people are contented with their political freedoms. The majority of the populace is Christian and conservative, and therefore dictates much of the policy of the country in that direction. There is also a small Latino minority in southeast Mannerstein, which holds no power in the government

Government

Power is shared between the military, led by Rein Henrikkson, and a council of corporations consisting of the most powerful Mannerstein based companies. The military handles foreign affairs, diplomacy, military action, and law enforcement, while the council handles domestic affairs.

The red background of the flag represents the valor of the Mannersteinian people. The black represents honor of the people, and the cross represents the pride of the people in their country, as well as a nod toward the prevalence of Christianity.

History

Unification

Before the Federation of Mannerstein was born, the area was just a collection of city states and provinces, without a ruler. However, soon a movement began throughout the area to unify all these states under one banner. After many years of lobbying and referendums, the Federation of Mannerstein was born. It was originally classified as a Tyranny by Majority state and had a Developing economy.

Growth and The Marxist State

Soon after the unification, the new government began putting through many reforms to increase the economy. These were successful, but came at the cost of the once beautful forests of inner Mannerstein, which were heavily logged. The Mountains in the north were also extensively mined. Also around this time the neighboring country formerly named Marxist State destabilized and warring factions arose. To protect the country, a force of the Mannerstein army was placed on the border, under command of General Rein Henrikkson. Soon a large force of the former army of The Marxist State launched a sneak attack, killing 6,000 Mannersteinian soldiers. The army soon recovered and pushed the aggressors back into their country, but the defeat still hung over the nation. In order to boost morale, the Mannersteinian army was sent into the former Marxist State to help the Nuekallyan's, Vizcosan's, and True Al Bhedian's to keep the peace. After some initial resistance and a last ditch counter attack by the Marxists, peace was gained and the Mannersteinian army was recalled back home.

Political Reform and The 8 Day Rebellion

Following the first military action in the country's history, the government began restricting political freedoms. The President's term was increased to 8 years, and he recieved more power than ever before. Referendums and voting initiatives were also curtailed. These reforms, as well as some institutionalized racism helped prompt a rebellion by the latino minority residing in the southwest of the country. The revolutionaries as the called themselves were trying to seperate from Mannerstein, and were promised aid from the country of Critera. However, Critera was invaded by Narwah, causing the rebelling faction to lose its support and get crushed in only 8 days.

The Coup

During the period of intense crisis in the Honor Guard following the invasion of SlidingAlbion, a select group of men grew tired of the current innefficient democratic system in Mannerstein. Taxes were being raised and nothing was getting done, either internationally or domestically. Finally a coup was staged by the military with support of the large corporations in Mannerstein. With the military behind the coup and the approval of the old government at an all time low 24% there was relatively little resistance. The new government has pledged to take a more direct approach to international and domestic issues, which is something the people of Mannerstein had wanted but had not been getting from the former government.

The Aryan Alliance

One of the first acts of the new government was to sign into the Aryan Alliance, consisting of Mannerstein, Demoritus, the GICV, and Western Akirema. The hope of this alliance is to bring together and strengthen nations with Aryan populations.
