The Merkava VK is the successor to the Merkava IV, which has seen action in the CAD conflict and, to a lesser extent, the Freekish invasion of Kahanistan. It disposes of the rear-entry door, favoring a 30 cm clearance above the ground under which soldiers crawl, unlock a manhole-like hatch, enter the tank from the floor, and close and lock the hatch. This makes soldiers escaping a damaged Merkava VK more difficult to spot and shoot than soldiers running out the back of a Merkava IV. The door of the Merkava VK is also less accessible to enemy fire, reducing the weak spot in most conventional modern tanks.
The Merkava VK also introduces the biodiesel engine, one of the first, if not the only, tank to incorporate environmental friendliness with combat usefulness and economical operation. This further serves to ease logistics, as Kahanistan no longer needs to import diesel fuel for its tanks as well as produce biodiesel for civilian vehicles, biodiesel can do it all.
The twin coaxial machine guns enable engagement of enemy infantry both in front of and behind the tank. It incorporates the Arena countermeasure system for defense against enemy missile attacks.
The chassis of the Merkava VK is also planned for use as the platform for numerous Kahanistanian air defenses, artillery, and other offensive weaponry.
