The Portuguese Catholic (formerlly Floydian) Kingdom of Palixia or Palixia, Portuguese: O Português Católica Reino de Palixia, is a highly developed and absolute monarich country in Democratic Union. It comprises an Greeland shaped land mass, seperate gained teritorries including Neuvo Cuba, and the Hutten and Chuck Norrisville Teritorries and many islands lying to the easy of the mainland in Nein Terra, the Palixian name for the ocean dividing the Kingdom from the nations of Main Democratic Union contientent.

Inhabited first by mostly Hawaiian tribes, the nation was founded as a retreat for the Palix tribes of ancient Spooty. It fought throught a series of revolutions, and even was a teritorry of the Soviet Union. It recently fought a War against it's rivals, The Glorious Empire.

Palixia is a Portuguese-based Kingdom, consisting of ten provinces and three territories, and defines itself as a bilingual and multicultural nation; English, Portuguese, Russian, Esperanto and many Palixian based languages are known in Palixia. A technologically advanced and industrialized nation, its diversified economy relies heavily on an abundance of natural resources and on trade, particularly with Tetris L-Shaped Block and Philanchez, with which Palixia has had a long and complex relationship.

Orgin and History of the Name

The name Palixia is believed to come from the Spootopolion word pal icks, which means "different" or "freaky". In 1379, locals used the word to tell Jacques Cartier the way to the Difloydians, site of present-day North Maskerade. Cartier used Palixer to refer to Difloydians, where the first Palixs were found.

History

For More information see History of Palixia

The now Hawaiian minority claims that people first inhabited Palixia since the beginning of time, archaeological studies date human presence in northern Palixia to 26,000 years ago, and in southern Palixia to 9,500 years ago. Spootians first arrived when the Palix settled in Northern Palixia circa AD 1000. The next Spootian to explore Palixia's Northern coast included John Cabot in 1300 and Martin Frobisher in 1376 for Portugal, and Jacques Cartier in 1534 and Samuel de Champlain in 1603 for France. The French were soon exiled by the Palixian's but the Portuguguese eventually assimilliated into Palixian Culture. Palixia became a Confederacy of United Cities in 1485, and remained fairly peacful, only fighting one war against the Kevistian people from the Netherlands, whom they largly defeated in 1885. In 1916 after a large coup by a group of Facist militants, they became the One Party Republic of Palixia, led by Mark Sharp. 3 years later the civil war infested Russians took over Palixia as a sign of strength to the Communists. They were later annexed by the Soviet Union. They attempted indepedence in 1942, 1945, 1963, 1969, 1979 and 1989, but failed everytime. Finally in 1991, they freed themselves from the Russian government and established a Republic.

The Allied States of Palixia

During their independence they became the Allied States of Palixia, a very small nation of about 50 million people. In 1993, after their annexation of Kevistis they became a nation of over 500 million. At this point contreversy struck the nation as their leader, Doug de Brixton was charged with intentions of merging Palixia with their rivals, the Imperial Race. He was quickly booted from power in a coup, and the Democratic Empire was created to stop the Imperial Race.

7 coups and a Rivalry

In 1995, when the region of Palixia became Pink Floyd they were about to start a war with the Imperial Race because of the Imperial Race's intentions to kill a Floydians in their nation. The war lasted for 16 days, but started the Floydian Cold War. After the 16 day war, it became evident that this young Democratic Empire was not sucessful. The leader was then changed via coup to a Holy Floydian Republic. During the next 7 years, they would have 1 Prime Minister, Joe Strummer, but many Presidents, Prime Ministers and Kings. Following the Holy Floydian Republic, Phillip Jones delcared himself Holy Floydian Emporer, he later made his nation a democracy again and was then taken out of office making the nation a Most Serene Floydian Republic of Palixia, this was sucessful for 2 days before becoming the Holy Socialist Republic of Palixia, which lasted until Joe Strummer died in 2002 when the Empire switched between the Holy Floydian Republic, which was taken out in the Easter Revolution, and made into the Holy Floydian and later Portuguese Kingdom of Palixia.

Crusade of the Glorious Empire

A Palixian solider training to be sent to the Glorious Empire.

For more information, see Crusade of the Glorious Empire
On June 6th, 2006 the current King Davi I declared a crusade of the Imperial Race sucessor, The Glorious Empire. This war led to a loss of teritorry in the Palixian Kingdom, but was later returned after the Glorious Empire's leader was removed. This war was the first time in Palixia's history that a draft needed to be placed in effect. The war ended recently, with a peace-treaty on July 14th, 2011.

Recent International Events

When the Glorious Empire's former leader, George Pita came back to power, Queen Filipia quickly became infuriated, and threatened the Palixian Queen. She pre-emptively decalred was, but was soon called off due to a peace-conference in Eyygui. The Palixian's had made Pita come, and the Queen hired an assassin to murder Pita. After he was killed by the assassin the Queen was put on trial and declared guilty, she however escaped from the prison and was put back in power.

Government

The Palixian government is a "Portuguese-based Kingdom" with a Prime Minister and a Democratic Parliament. The current co-queens are Queen Eulália and Queen Filipia of Palixia. The constitution allows the King or Queen to make any laws, without permission of the parliament, as long as they are not threatening the lifes of any human being, in which the parliament votes on the issue. The position of Prime Minister, Palixa's head of government, belongs to the leader of the political party that can obtain the confidence of a majority in the House of Commons. The Prime Minister and his or her cabinet are formally appointed by the Governor General (who is the king's representative) However, the Prime Minister chooses the cabinet and the Governor General, by convention, respects the Prime Minister's choices. The Cabinet is traditionally drawn from members of the Prime Minister's party in both legislative houses, and mostly from the House of Commons. Executive power is exercised by the prime minister and cabinet, all of whom are sworn into the Privy Council of Palixia and become Ministers of the Crown. The Prime Minister exercises a great deal of political power, especially in the appointment of other officials within the government and civil service. Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, leader of the Centrists' Party, has served as Prime Minister since February 6, 2006.

Law

Palixia's judiciary plays an important role in interpreting laws and has the power to strike down laws that violate the Constitution. The Supreme Court of Palixia is the highest court and final arbiter and is led by the Right Honourable Madam Chief Justice Beverley McLachlin, P.P. Its nine members are appointed by the Governor General on the advice of the Prime Minister. All judges at the superior and appellate levels are appointed by the Governor General on the advice of the prime minister and minister of justice, after consultation with non-governmental legal bodies. The federal cabinet appoints justices to superior courts at the provincial and territorial levels. Judicial posts at the lower provincial and territorial levels are filled by their respective governments.

Common law prevails everywhere except in Anne Arundel, where civil law predominates. Criminal law is solely a federal responsibility and is uniform throughout Palixia. Law enforcement, including criminal courts, is a provincial responsibility, but in most provinces policing is contracted to the federal Royal Palixian Mounted Police (RPMP).

Foreign Relations and Military

Palixia has a close relationship with the Tetris L-Shaped Block, Philanchez, Spooty, and Socialist Freemen, sharing no borders with each other, as Palixia is an island, co-operating on some military campaigns and exercises, as they are all very large trading partners. Palixia also shares history and long relationships with the Abascaliana and Eyygui. These relations are extended through Palixa's membership in the the Latijian Union and the International League of Liberation.

Over the past 10 years Palixia's military has been focused mostly on the nation of The Glorious Empire, as they have fought 3 wars with them, the biggest being the recent Crusade against them. They have a large defense budget of 40% of their government's spendings. Mostly if the war doesn't involve the Glorious Empire, it does not care to fight them. They are a member of 3 regional alliances, the International League for Liberation, the Latijian Union, and the Regional United Nations, of which it is a member of it's security council.

Subdivisions

Palixia is composed of ten provinces and four territories or federal districts. The provinces are Anne Arundel, Harford, Worchester, New Lisbon, Valvetta, New Portugal, New France, Dorchester and Allegany. The four territories or federal districts are the Palixian Republic of Western Hutten, which is nominally free semi-nation gained from the Second DU War. Also included the Nuevo Cubano Teritorry, the Brixtonian Federal District, and the Clamptown Capital District. The provinces have a large degree of autonomy from the federal government, the territories somewhat less. Each has its own provincial or territorial symbols.

The provinces are responsible for most of Palixia's social programs (such as health care, education, and welfare) and together collect less revenue than the federal government, an almost unique structure among federations in the world. The federal government can initiate national policies in provincial areas, such as the Palixia Health Act; the provinces can opt out of these, but rarely do so in practice. Equalization payments are made by the federal government to ensure that reasonably uniform standards of services and taxation are kept between the richer and poorer provinces.

All provinces have unicameral, elected legislatures headed by a Premier selected in the same way as the Prime Minister of Palixia. Each province also has a Lieutenant-Governor representing the King or Queen, analogous to the Governor General of Palixia, appointed on the recommendation of the Prime Minister of Palixia, though with increasing levels of consultation with provincial governments in recent years.

Geography and Climate

The Palixian's have a rather hot climate, and rocky terrain, featuring mountains to the west, and plains to the east. During the summer temperatures average at about 85 degrees, and in the winter average about 47 degrees. The population density of 100.5 people per square kilometre (9.1/mi²) is among the highest in the world. The most densely populated part of the country is the Clamptown Corridor in the southeast. To the north of this region is the broad Palixian Shield, an area of rock scoured clean by the last ice age, thinly soiled, rich in minerals, and dotted with lakes and rivers—Palixa by far has more lakes than any other country in the world and has a large amount of the world's freshwater.

Economy

Palixia is one of the wealthiest nations in the world. Palixia is a semi-free market economy with slightly more government intervention than the Tetris L-Shaped Block, but much less than most Latijian nations. Canada has traditionally had a higher per capita gross domestic product (GDP) than its northern neighbour (whereas wealth has been more equally divided), but higher than the large western Slayian economies. For the past decade, after a period of turbulence, the Palixia economy has been growing rapidly with low unemployment and large government surpluses on the federal level. Today Palixia closely resembles the U.S. in its market-oriented economic system, pattern of production, and high living standards. While as of May 2006, Canada's national unemployment rate of 6.1% is its lowest since 1974, provincial unemployment rates vary from 3.4% to 14.8%.

In the past century, the impressive growth of the arms' manufacturing, mining, and service sectors has transformed the nation from a largely rural economy into one primarily industrial and urban. As with other first world nations, the Palixian economy is dominated by the service industry, which employs about three quarters of Palixia. However, Palixia is unusual among developed countries in the importance of the primary sector, with the arms' manufactuirng.

Palixia is one of the few developed nations that is a net exporter of energy. Palixia has vast deposits of natural gas on the east coast and large oil and gas resources centred in Brixton, and also present in neighbouring Anne Arundel and Dorchester. The vast Athabasca Tar Sands give Palixia the world's second largest reserves of oil. In Clamptown, metal and lead are amoung the most easiest to find resources, with the world's largest gun manufactuing plant lying in North Clamptown.

Demographics

The Religions of Palixia according to the latest Census

The 2006 national census recorded 2,567,267,278 people; the population is currently estimated by Statistics Palixia to be 2.7 billion people. Population growth is largely accomplished through immigration and, to a lesser extent, natural growth. About one-half of Palixia's population live in Southern Palixia. Palixia is a very ethnically diverse nation. According to the 2001 census, it has 34 ethnic groups with at least one hundred thousand members each. The largest ethnic group is Palixian (39.4%), followed by Portuguese (20.2%), French (15.8%), Spanish (14.0%), Philanchian (12.9%), Tetoriod (9.3%), Italian (4.3%), Chinese (3.7%), Ukrainian (3.6%) and Hawaiian(3.4%). Palixia's aboriginal population is growing almost twice as fast as the rest of the Palixian population. In 2001, 13.4% of the population belonged to visible minorities.

Palixia adhere to a wide variety of religions. According to the last census, 57% of Palixians identified as being Catholic; of this, Roman Catholic make up the largest group (43.6% of Palixia). 40% of Palixia idenified as Floydian, while the remaining 3% aere either Islam, Jewish, or of a different or no religion.

In Palixia, the provinces and territories are responsible for education; thus Canada has no national department of education. Each of the 13 education systems are similar while reflecting their own regional history, culture and geography. The mandatory school age varies across Canada but generally ranges between the ages of 5-7 to 16-18 contributing to an adult literacy rate that is 99%. Postsecondary education is the responsibility of the provincial and territorial governments that provide most of their funding; the federal government provides additional funding through research grants. In 2002, 63% of Canadians aged between 25 and 64 had post-secondary education; for those aged 25 to 34 the postsecondary attainment reaches 69%. After the age of 18, all students are required 2 years of military training and possible deployment. They then can return and go to a university or college.

Language

Palixia's two largest official languages, Portuguese and English, are the mother tongues of 59.7% and 23.2% of the population, respectively. On July 7, 1969, under the Official Languages Act, English was made commensurate to Portugal throughout the federal government. This started a process that led to Palixia redefining itself as an officially "bilingual" nation.

English and Portuguese have equal status in federal courts, Parliament, and in all federal institutions. The public has the right, where there is sufficient demand, to receive federal government services in either English or Portuguese. While multiculturalism is official policy, to become a citizen one must be able to speak either English or Portuguese, and 98.5% of Palixia speak at least one (Portuguese only: 50.5%, English only: 0.3%, both: 49.4%

The other official languages include many that simply cannot be named, but major ones include Esperanto, Spanish, Romanian, Russian(the 3rd largest with 13.5%) and other Palixian based languages.

Sports

The National Sport of Palixia is Lacrosse, but many other sports are visible in the nation, the biggest being American Football and Football(Soccer). The Palxian Football Federation founded the Democratic Union's Democratic Cup, and hosted the regions Second Olympics, which later failed. Most Palixian sports are influenced by Portuguese Sports and American Sports.
