The Trondheim class destroyers are part of Bryn Shander's Year 00 Rearmament Plan, and were designed to replace the old and far less capable Talos, Cassandra, and Artemis class destroyers, as well as the Akira class beam destroyer. An inital batch of 100 ships has been ordered and are under construction at Axis.
The Trondheim is much more capable than it's predecessors, being built around a powerful 100 gigawatt spinal megaparticle gun and carrying eight twin 1 gigawatt megaparticle turrets. The Trondheim's anti-aircraft suite is made up of sixteen twin 120mm autocannon mounts placed in pairs along the superstructure. Rounding out the Trondheim's weapons are ten 1000mm torpedo tubes that fire torpedoes armed with shaped 200 megaton warheads.
Unlike the previous destroyers, the Trondheim carries a small compliment of auxillery craft consisting of four mobile suits, eight fighters, and two shuttles. These craft, while certianly as capable of combat as the same craft stationed on capital ships and military bases, will primarily serve a utilitarian role on the Trondheim. For example, the mobile suits can assist in heavy work outside of the ship, and the fighters can be used as scouts during patrol missions.
