ESAT at the First Summer Olympics
The Extraterritorial Sovereign Ariddian Territory's presence at the First Summer Olympics will be overseen by the ESAT National Olympic Committee (EATNOC). The country's (non-official) sports' code is EAT.
ESAT’s participation in the Games has yet to be confirmed. Despite officially being a sovereign nation, ESAT has an unusual status, and it is uncertain whether the Olympic Council will recognise the legitimacy of its national Olympic Committee. ESAT is not currently a member of the international Olympic Council.
ESAT intends to send a single athlete to the Games, road cyclist Annabel Mild. Mild has joint ESAT and Ariddian nationality. Ms. Mild’s announcement that she planned to compete as a representative of ESAT caused significant controversy, and the matter is not yet fully settled (see full story). The Ariddian Olympic Committee has hinted that it would not object to the Olympic Council deeming Mild to be representative of Ariddia, but it remains to be seen whether Ms. Mild herself would agree to this.
If authorised to participate as a representative of ESAT, Annabel Mild will be the nation’s flag-bearer in the opening ceremony.
