LaivNFang, officially the United States of LaivNFang, is a nation situated in the Antarctic Oasis since 2006 and is home to nearly 1.5 billion residents. The nation shares diplomatic ties with neighbouring countries including Omigodtheykilledkenny, Cronaria, The Unionized Stoners, Kivisto, Akimonad, Morane, Kienes, Mopurify, Partial Malevolence, I Cant Go Home Now and New Leicestershire.

Government

The United States of LaivNFang is a presidential-unitary republic, with a unicameral parliamentary system of government. Democratic elections are held every six years, in which the people elect members to the 228-seat House of Representatives, where the LaivNFang Liberal Party currently holds the balance of power. The LaivNFang Labor Party, the LaivNFang Greens and the Fangish Democrats currently serve in Opposition. Parliament house is located in LaivNFang Central and is home to the official offices of the Head of State, Government Ministers and the Shadow Ministry.

Immediately upon Federation in 2006, a national referenda was held to elect a President to lead the newly-formed nation. Liberal candidate, Mr Kristian S. Hayes received a convincing percentage of the popular vote and served as Acting President until he was sworn in officially on January 11, 2007, when he gained complete control of party room, State and Government. Shortly after, President Hayes made an important address to the nation, outlining his vision for the future 'the strength of which lies in good bilateralism within the Antarctic Oasis region.'

The judiciary is controlled by the High Court of LaivNFang, which has extensive representation throughout the country and overseen by Chief Justice Mary M. Miles. Associate justices are appointed by the President on advice from the Attorney-General, Mr W.M. Hodgman, QC. Other courts serving the people, include the Supreme Provincial Court and the Metropolitan Magistrates Court.

The LaivNFang Defense Forces serve the nation and consists of the Army, the Navy and the National Air Guard. At home, the LaivNFang Police Associate (LPA) is responsible for security in association with the LaivNFang Intelligence Orginisation (LIO). All branches are overseen by General James B. Barrett, who serves as both Minister for Defense and Chief of Defense Forces. Military service is undertaken on a voluntary basis and is open to all male and female permanent citizens who are over the age of 18 and declared fit.

National Security

In an ever-unsettling world of terrorism, National Security has been a priority of the Hayes Administration. The President announced on April 5, 2007 that the Government was implementing a new domestic security agency, designed to be responsible for the protection of all citizens against the threat of terrorism, politically-motivated violence and foreign intrusion. In command of LIO is Commissioner "Slick" Rick Felty. Unlike comparable agencies in other nations, the LaivNFang Intelligence Orginisation (LIO) has recruited 300 civilian officers across the country, who will be armed and have the power to arrest and interrogate suspects. Attorney-General Hodgman is believed to have signed a warrant to grant LIO officers access to special investigative powers to assist investigations, including: the power to intercept telecommunications with the use of listening & tracking devices, the power to enter & search suspect premises and the power to seek warrants for the questioning of persons suspected of terrorism.

The national animal of LaivNFang is the Orlov Trotter.

The currency of LaivNFang is the pound and the national animal is the Orlov Trotter, which coincidently, or rather not so coincidently, appears on the pound note.

English is the national language but the traditional Fangish is also widely used. Thanks to progressive social policies in multi-cultural education, a considerable proportion of the population are bilingual. Consideration is also made in general society for the hearing and visually imparied.

School attendance is compulsory throughout LaivNFang for children aged 6–16 years. In addition, the Government has established 52 public universities and 634 feeder colleges, at which teachers, instructors and lecturers are tested on a routine basis to ensure their skills are at a premium standard. Approximately 64% of LaivNFangems between the ages of 24 and 68 have vocational or tertiary qualifications. The Government made a surprise announcement in early 2007, that they were introducing immediate new legislation effectively offering free education to all LaivNFang citizens. Although the move is expected to be a heavy burden on income tax, the public response has been positive, as has international critique. The Government has committed further funding to revamping the education system.

LaivNFang has maintains an active immigration program throughout the region to boost population growth. A diverse range of immigrants are granted citizenship with a particular emphasis on previous vocational training. The immigration quota also makes allowances for additional family members and possible refugees, whose cases are heard on an individual basis by the High Court.

The Government has been criticised abroad for offering increasingly low standards of Health care to it's citizens, resulting in many contagious diseases being left untreated and with medical personnel a rare sight, many people living at or below the povery line are essentially left to fend for themselves. A small, exclusive group of medical surgeons perform occasional procedures for rich people who can afford it. Lack of Government incentives have reduced organ donation rates to an all-time low. There is a single national Abortion clinic which operates only in unusual circumstances or when ordered by the courts.

An increase in trans-gender activity amongst the nation's youth has led to ill-concieved Government policy to admit transsexuals to psychiatric wards without having their cases assessed on an individual basis. The move has been met with criticism from the country's most influential civil rights activists, who believe it's unfair to treat these people as criminals. Nevertheless, President Hayes has refused to back down from his stance on this issue.

The Supreme Church of LaivNFang is the official state religion, however is adopted by only 39% (2007 est.) of the population. The head of the church is the Bishop J.J. Ripper, who is best known for his televangelistic preaching and for living a very comfortable lifestyle.

The most beloved national sport is LaivNFang Rules Football, which holds a grand final spectacular every November, often attracting high profile Government ministers. The game is considered an icon of the LaivNFangish way of life.

National sporting teams also represent LaivNFang in International Cricket, Golf, Tennis, Basketball and at Olympic events.

Economic Growth

LaivNFang is considered an economic powerhouse in the region and has been considered increasingly revolutionary in recent years, backed by a liberal-minded Government and a talented Treasury. Domestically, there is increasing economic value in the Information Technology industry, along with the Uranium Mining and Book Publishing sectors. Abroad, cheese exports have weakend in foreign markets as of late, as interest in LaivNFang's Arms Manufacturing industry increases. LaivNFang has come under fire for it's heavy-handed tactics when dealing with neighbouring nations who have requested humanitarian aid. An Opposition-funded review board has been established to investigate & report on trade concession deals which have conveniently arisen in such circumstances.

The Hayes Administration has been repeatedly criticised for it's lack of interest in domestic funding, with independant government analysis indicating the Government has expended £2.5 Trillion on expanding it's Defense portfolio since coming to power, which has been considered a provactive move in the face of various regional and international powers.
